I agree with the blog, it was right on the edge of being late, but was acceptable.
Malkin should have let that go, it was a clean hit and there were two minutes left. The Leafs had good pressure on the subsequent 6 on 4 and almost tied the game. I hate seeing guys have to fight and the game get stopped for clean hits. Save that stuff for plays that are actually dirty. |

Hit was clean. Great check by Dion.
I also loved 71's response to the hit. I understand that it put us in a tough spot late in the game. Guess what...so what? Regular season is the time for this kind of stuff. This team needs to grow a set. Specifically, their leaders need to get down and dirty more frequently. Last night was a step in the right direction. I loved the gritty game 87 played as well.
I don't like it any more than anyone else that the game is played this way. Clean hits are more often than not retaliated against. That's just the necessary reality.
They killed the 6-4 off. Showed some balls. Showed some heart. Why is this a bad thing?
Now if this was a playoff game, my response would be different. Cant do that kind of stuff in April and May. |

Nice write up gunner.
On the Malkin issue, I don't think fighting or confronting after every big hit is worth it, but when it comes to Geno I'm ok with it. I like Geno getting fired up, getting into the game, and I expect him to dominate tonight because of that.
Also, feed the genomachino on that power play! That's why its been cold!!!!! |

+1. Perfectly said.
Clean hit. No issue there. (And I do think the title of the blog is rather clickbaitish...but I understand that everyone is trying to drive hits, so be it. Just comes off as a bit cheap slight of hand to draw viewers, IMHO. At least give us a chart! )
As for Malkins response, I don't dont like people feeling like they need to repsond to clean hots, but its the way the league works today, so I dont have an issue with it. Displaying a pack mentality and standing up for a teammate is more important in the long run than risking a point in November. |

I liked the hit. I tend to think Phaneuf is at his best playing that type of game. |

Great hit! Loved it! The league needs more of them.
Phaneuf going to the box after the Malkin hugging is my beef. Why should a guy defending himself be penalized? |
|
|
|
Controversial hit? Wow has the NHL fan base become a bunch oh pu**ies if they think that was. The NHL defenseman's job is to knock the guy off the puck and finish checks! Even though I hate Phaneuf, It was a good hit! The only issue I'd have If I were a Pens fan, Why was it Malkin to do the act of coming to the aid of a teammate? - twpman
Hey retard, read the blog and see that he said it was a clean it. I'm pretty sure no one here is saying it was a dirty hit. |

Greiss looked very good. He's just so calm and IMO he's a vokoun clone, just younger. It's making me feel really good in case fleury implodes during the playoffs.
Again, I'm hoping whoever the pens get for a winger for malkin that it's a similar player to Hornqvist. Speed, goes to the front of the net, hits, and shoots |

Agreed and well said. I know there's always a risk of injury but on the other hand it shows they are playing better as a team and are in this for each other. The past few years this team has been a combination of being to emotional and being worked up to easily when things aren't going their own way (it seemed like they were never comfortable with their own style unless it was going their way); but then they were never able to show enough emotion to stick up for each other and stop the Bs Targeting that developed from it.

I've been a fan since game one because of how steady and in control he looks, it's too bad he lost that game. I think the new style of play Johnston has brought in is already helping flower and the team playing in front of him more confidence in each other, but man, if greiss' solid, steady, and confident style rubs off of marc-andre then look out because that's going to be one hell of a duo. |

Limited nmc or something of the sort. They're farther from his home on long Island and no where near being a wildcard let alone a contender. That doesn't mean a prospect couldn't be offered up, but remember that team and it's fan base expects any deals proposed to be lopsided in their favor as the clear winner or you're just a joke for even trying to help their poop show. |

Tough part is that the Pens need 1 carefully selected top 6 winger. Just for sh*ts, even if that trade happened, I'd be nervous that would be our only move, and imo, not enough. |

Good write-up. The hit was certainly clean, and the the defense of Horny's honour was overkill.
Pens get the last laugh via the scoreboard and that's nice for you guys. |

Yeah I agree. I want to see more of Ehroff before I make my mind up on him, same with Spaling. I think this team is better, just not sure how much of a playoff team they are yet.

The hit was very clean, I do not have a problem with Malkin giving Dion the bear hug though and here's why.
Last years playoffs saw the refs and Penguin teammates do absolutely nothing to Dubinsky or Staal when they were taking shots at Sid. IMO it had a lot to do with their exit in pathetic fashion.
Someone needed to do something, even a Russian bear hug would suffice but the Penguins skated away time after time. The result was blowing a 3-1 lead and Sid likely wondering where the hack his mates are.
Risking the 2 points at this time of year means very little for a team that will not be missing the playoffs. Sometimes taking the high ground...even on a clean hit is NOT the best way to go.
Anyways, killed it...got the 2...perhaps a little more team unity. Well worth it IMO.

See, I thought the Penguins did a great job of drawing and avoiding penalties during that series against Columbus. The PP just didn't do much with the PP opportunities. Penguins went 1/8 in the 2 OT loss in game 2, 0/6 in the comeback win in game 3, and then 1/4 in the each of the last three games.
And then of course the 1-20 debacle against the Rangers.
They're too talented not to make things happen on the PP. Tonight will be another test - they need to show that they can adapt the PP against teams that like to pressure the point men. |
