I know I'm gonna get heavily criticized for this but...I'd entertain the idea of trading Letang. With theway Matta is playing and the upcoming d, it would be nice to see Letang + spaling fetch 2 forwards a top 6 and a bottom 6.

14 games in, Johnston seems to have a good baseline on the team, I'm fine with some experimenting.
- rival22

This team is not going to miss the playoffs.....

We were critical of Bylsma for not looking at other options through the year to 'see what we have'.

I love that Johnston is looking at other options, hey we might loose some games because of it, but over 82 games we are going to know what this team can bring in different situations.

Plus it would be nice if the team gets out of sync due to line changes that the goalies steal a couple for the team, either of them.

I love Fleury, but I would just love him to steal some games we have no right in winning, like that 54 save performance against the red wings in game 5 of the 08 playoffs.

That playoff run is why he gets paid like he does now. That is what set his financial standard, he was never going to get paid less than that.

But this line changing is great, same with the d pairings, we have watched some dynamite pairings so far, even when we get a full compliment of players, putting guys in and out of the line up will help the staff work out who is better together and who can fill holes when we get injuries..... This team will always have injuries....

You don't need "physical" defenders, you need guys who have great gap control and positioning. Can players who do that also play physical? Of course, but the gap control in positioning is way more important.

Marc-Andre Fleury is the only reason that 2007-08 team went anywhere. It was his career year.

I consider the 2007-08 Red Wings team the best of the lockout era.

Take nothing away from datsyuk n Zetterberg but that team as a whole got away with so much clutching and grabbing and even more pick plays than any team in the lockout era. Even when theylost

Dupes on Crosby's line= Dupes proving he is top 6 till hes 80 on this board.

Dupes on Malkins line= Malkin needs a better linemate, trade Letang, 1st, Maata to find a player that knows how to skate.

- sammy87

If you don't already know that Dupes is a top six no matter where he plays you really do need Fancy stats to tell you whos a good player. Sucks that we always have to take the best players away from Sid to get pouty face "going".

Trade Crosby and Malkin, that'll surely give us the good wingers...

Why dont we explore this Hemsky for Scuderi deal a bit more...

I would like to know if one trade ever discussed on a message board ever actually happened. By the way people talk on here I'm convinced Martin will sign an 8 yr extension.

Or just keep playing bottom 6 wingers on Sid and Malkins lines and watch them get older and olderwhile winning nothing but scoring titles they created for themselves. If the pens have enough young capable d ready to fill spots for a lot less money..... then the time is now.

Nope. If they did, we'd have Kulemin and Hemsky (combined 2 goals this year) as top line wingers, with no hope out because they'd have cost $8 mil, with a good bit of term left for both of them.

The last signing/trade I predicted was Ruslan Fedotenko, and that was a long time ago.

That's why I don't play the conjecture game anymore - total waste of time.

long story short, i like mike richards. he isnt the same player he was in philly, but he is a heart and soul guy who will give you everything he's got.

the problem is you dont need to pay a guy 5.7 million to do that. LA would need to hold onto some of his salary which im not sure they'd be willing to do.

if you could get him for like 4.5, i'd think about it. 5.7, i wouldnt do it.

Sometimes it's fun to come up with trade proposals just to have some discussion and pass the time, but if anyone takes their own (or anyone else's) proposals seriously, then that's a problem lol.

But the term is a problem too... If you could do 4.5 for this year and next, then I'd be in. But if that was his contract, LA probably wouldn't be shopping him.

It's a timing thing for me. Hypothetical trade discussion at the deadline is reasonable and fun. By that point, teams are out of it, certain players are known to be available, and pending UFA's for struggling teams are fair game.

But in November (and at 10-3-1) it's just silly.

had it been that, they probably just would have bought him out.

the years are tough, but to me if you get the cap down to 3-4, you think about it. no idea what'd they want.

And that's why it won't work. The Penguins would have to send cap to L.A. to take on Richards' hit, and L.A. would be jettisoning Richards to get rid of the cap hit, so they're not going to be in a hurry to take on cash.

Two teams in need of cap space rarely make good trading partners, at least for big pieces.

Dupes and Kunitz are both 35 btw...They will be 38 when they start the final year of their contract. Let that sink in. But I know Dupes was good 2 years ago.

Looks like we have an actual hockey game. I may not be able to watch but I will record and watch when I get home. Toronto is fresh off a drubbing of Boston mind you.
