Its good to know that their habit of not being ready to play in the start of games for the last four seasons has to do with talent and not lack of effort.

This teams amazing ability to come back from deficits late in games speaks to their talent in the latter half of games. Talent that does not exist at the beginning of games.

So its a lack of talent. But only a lack of "beginning of game" talent.

I'm glad that has been cleared up.

Flyers talent doesn't kick in until around 9:00PM on weeknight games. Not their fault for that. They can't control that.

And in the Montreal game, they were talented in the first two periods. But unfortunately, their talent oozed out of them in the 2nd intermission.

Their comeback ability has to do with score effects too. Maybe now that they've been labeled a "comeback team" they try to play that role subconsciously and play casually until they're losing. They finished 20th and 13th in 2012-13 and 2013-14 which is right about where anyone could expect them to finish. So I think their talent has translated to the appropriate amount of success.

It's not an issue for them because they come to play on the opening puck drop for the overwhelming majority of games. The fluctuations that are present that you are confusing with the Flyers situation, is situations such as 3 game in 4 nights, or back to back games where a team just doesn't have it's legs. That happens with every team. That is not the case with this Flyere team and the issues they are having, especially at the start of games.
There is no doubt that the Flyers have some roster issues, and some execution issues that have effected them this season. But by far the most alarming issue in my opinion, is the lack of intensity, and urgency in the team for games and periods of games.

- MJL

Maybe they don't play with urgency because they know they aren't going anywhere.

It just seems odd to me that we question leadership when they struggle yet praise it when they win. It's the same group so it must not be that.

We need to let G and Jake Simmer a bit before we let The Cavalier play with Coots.

After all the debates and discussions, how long are PAYING season ticket holders ready to wait for the promised land to arrive, how patient can everyone be waiting for the teams defensive future to mature in the scenic Lehigh Valley while the core ages and probably not gracefully. Money would be better spent on season tix there.

There are some really stupid things going on at the coaching level, especially as been discussed with the spotting of Akeson in a role not suited to him.

All the great teams of the past often had offensive players who were niche players and not expected to be winning the Selke- they were power play/offensive specialist.

I dont buy trying to be like the Kings or a bigger west coast team, using a smaller offensive forward on the 4th line and trying to make him be an effective checker in that role.

Absolutely a waste of talent doing that
Talk about square pegs in round holes, Chief gets no pass from me on that one.
Earning offensive time by being an undersized energy/checking 4th line guy playing away from his strengths. Do they expect a miracle or a body transplant ???

Akeson is not the second coming of Kent Nilsson, but he was a bright light in the playoffs offensively now reduced to the mucker role.

Players prepare for games differently than others. Some enjoy joking around before a game in order to stay loose. Others don't want to talk to anyone because they want to be in the zone. Some like listening to music.

Perhaps, the Flyers are too pumped up and lose gap control or go out of position.

I don't believe the team is lacking effort to start games. They just aren't that good.

Without going through all of this, I may not renew next season. If I didn't love my seats so much, I wouldn't have renewed after last season.

So when AMac and Coburn come back, are we just banking on Coliacavo hurting himself before then? Or are we looking at loosing one of Jones/Akeson/Vandevelde to waivers?

Jones is probably the odd man out, no? Vandevelde has played well IMO. I know were talking fringe NHLers here that (shouldn't) make or break this team, but something to discuss nonetheless.

Nicknames are ok if it's you're own players or an all world talent. People know who Geno, Sid, OV and Big Z are.

Yeah I'd have to go with Jones. I like carrying 8 dmen. Not to mention if we have injuries up front and suddenly need the depth, we still have Laughton who can come up and down as he pleases. And thats assuming someone claims Jones, which more then likely wont happen since he's barely played.

You are better than this.

Little known fact: Before becoming "The Great One" and before Mario became "Le Magnifique" Wayne Gretzky was known in some circles as "Le Magnifique."

I own one.
