You would think half of the Panthers forwards being injured would have been a blow to them.

The Tim Hortons' version of Muchkins are Timbits. They sponsor several "Mites on Ice" style intermission events. They are called, simply, "Timbits." I thought that was pretty cute.

I think there could be a drastic change if the Flyers don't win at least two of the next three home games against Edmonton, Floria and Colorado. After Saturday there's a five day break, and Hextall didn't hire Berube.

My question was in regards to the shuffling of the wings on the 2nd and 3rd line. I would have liked Simmonds and Schenn to stay together as well as Read/Umberger flanking Couturier.

Also: Not 100% opposed to your idea.

- jmatchett383

Lecavalier is going to go back to center the 2nd line. Bellemare goes back to the 4th line. So that's 2 lines changed that makes sense. Both Read and Umberger are struggling offensively, so it makes sense to split them up. B Schenn has been playing pretty well lately, so maybe he can add some offense and forecheck pressure for the Couturier line, so that change makes sense. And Umberger can add some defensive responsibiliyt and balance to the Lecavalier line.

You're right, let's break up wing duos that have been playing well so we can balance things more evenly. It's worked well so far.

Gotta love Texas. You can basically do anything you want, just plea and pay $2000 and be on your way.

Also: TSN moderates comments with an iron fist.

I'd have no issue with benching LeCavalier and Umberger for the rest of those contracts.

A crazy man can dream I suppose.

I was listening to a Ken Hitchcock press conference yesterday on NHL Network Radio on Sirius. Most of it was routine updates on the Blues but Hitch said something quite interesting about special teams play.

He said that he benchmarks outstanding special teams play in today's NHL as a score of 105 (combined power play and penalty killing success percentages, in any combination).

Here's a look at the Flyers' special teams scores in recent years:

2011-12: 101.5 (19.7% PP, 81.1% PK)
2012-13: 107.5 -- tops in the NHL (21.6% PP, 85.9% PK)
2013-14: 104.5 (19.7% PP, 84.8% PK)
2014-15 to date: 95.3 (19.5 on power play, 75.8 on PK)

Barry Melrose used to say the same thing, back when ESPN has the NHL contract nationally -- it's a very good benchmark for the majority of teams, though there are sometimes a few outliers

It's also a similar formula to "PDO" (shooting % + save %), which helps determine outliers at the team and player levels.

But I don't think an NHL coach or "analyst" has referenced it yet, so it's still witchcraft.

There is a link at the bottom of that to an article about MDZ and the porn star. Much better read.

Ha! I swear, that league and its fans, sometimes -- it's funny, too. But I have looked at that for years, since Melrose explained it, and while it does tend to work, what I found (on a general basis) is that separation comes when the PK is at 83 percent and the PP around 22 percent and higher -- those are the teams that are beating the hell out of people most nights

Berube: "If you do job right, you're still going to get plenty of scoring chances."

Asked about possibly switching 2nd PP unit personnel around, Berube said "We have roles on this team."

Here's the exact quote: "That’s your job. Maybe it limits your chances a little bit, but I’m not sure I agree with that that much. They’re a checking line and out there playing against a very good line, but if they do things right, they’re going to get a lot of chances offensively. "
