From nhl.com :

Vancouver Canucks forward Alexandre Burrows will have a phone hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Friday.

Burrows checked Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin at 8:28 of the second period of a game Thursday at Rogers Arena. No penalty was called on the play. Emelin missed the remainder of the second period but returned for the third.

The following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline: interference and illegal check to the head. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to the infraction upon review.

It was late, no doubt about that and the ref should of called a late hit, I don't agree about it being directly to the head. It looks like Emelin tries to avoid contact/stumbles back at the last second and is grazed by burrows as he goes by. It shook Emelin up and I am glad he is okay but I don't think there was enough contact for the ref to make a call at the time.

The best veiw of the contact is seen from above where you can see Burrows has lined Emelin up shoulder to shoulder and Emelin pulls back at last moment.
You can see in the way Emelin reacts that he falls backwards (likely from trying to avoid the hit) rather than falling to the side if Burrows had hit him with much force.

Keep your head in the sand, I'll bet he will still get suspended by the league whatever you might says, just wait.
- Popofjc

And you keep pretending that wasn't a pathetic attempt at embellishment. Habs fans should absolutely embarrassed.

Oh I know it's not decided yet, but like I said, just wait. It's not like other peoples are not saying it too :

Thanks for being a condescending ***** with the language thing by the way.

- Popofjc

Oh, Daren (frank)ing Dreger has an opinion?! Why didn't you say so! He's ALWAYS right. Big deal, there's also people who don't think he'll get suspended. If it was such a bad hit, you wonder why none of his team mates stood up for him? On other teams guys go after opposing players even for clean hits. Yet nobody stood up for Emelin on this terrible, dirty hit. Seems like some issues in the Canadiens locker room.

It was a hit to the head. Was there intent? No I doubt it he was finishing a check all be it a bit late. Emelin came back. The pass was already received by a canuck and he was watching stupid pass not even making an attempt to get back into the play. He knew that he screwed up and decided to lie there in hope they would call off the 2 on 1 created by his bone head play. If he is suspended its only because of past offences. It was a hockey play in the middle of the ice.

[quote=Popofjc]Inconclusive? What? How can it be more clear it was directly to the head ?

It is blurry.

Yep they are, just wish they had more defensive depth coming down the pipeline. Wouldn't it be nice to have a Darnell Nurse in the system? Hope it's a D heavy draft and Benning plays his cards well and gets one early for a change.

One stop shopping at the draft we only need a #1 D and a #1 C.

I laugh, but fingers crossed we can at least address one need and get by for another year without the other.

Are you looking for a little affirmation?

Thinking we all should want to get our pitchforks and lynch Burrows? We have seen worse hits that generate less of an uproar.

Emelin = flopper

never seen a player make such a recover from such a "devastating" hit.

first contact was with the shoulder, only reason why Emelin falls backwards is because he's off balance.... which might explain that horrible pass he coughed up.

I wish Burrows laid out more people like that by finishing his checks. It looks as though the rest of Emelin's team mates knew he was faking it as they just skated past him. That was so pathetic. Enjoy whining like spoiled little children after every loss.

Man I dont normally venture into canucks threads but this is pretty brutal...he'll get suspended a few games which is fine but all the embellishment, calling him a pansy, etc etc is ridiculous.

It was a late, high hit by a guy who hasnt been suspended but plays on the edge and went over it here with an unnecessary check. If this happened to a Canuck you'd be up in arms...it is what it is - if he gets suspended are you all still going to defend the hit?

Yeah he barely hit him. Emelin was just being a p*ssy and trying to draw a penalty. Plus he contacted his shoulder first then it slid to his head. Montreal is overrated. Without Price their a below average team. Having said that I love Galchenyuk. What a player.
- Boinker

Montreal is not overrated. They have a solid team that plays a really entertaining style.I'll cheer for the bleu, blanc et rouge except against B.C.based teams.

It was an entertain game last night though. So far I am having a lot of fun watching this season. A way better brand of hockey is being played now that Douchèarella isn't our coach.

The hit wasn't devastating. It was directly to the head though. It doesn't need to be extremely hard to be dangerous.

It was a late hit (anyone can argue with that??)

It was directly to the head (argue?? really)

So it is punishable and he will get 2 games.

It's a pretty soft call. Shouldn't suspensions be conclusive?

Suspensions are way down this season compared to this point in the season last year and it almost feels like the league is going out of their way to send a "reminder" to the players on this one.

Weak.

I don't give a fock about embellishment.

Embellishment doesn't get suspensions.

Hit to the head does

A guy got hit by a skater, his head was hit (who knows how hard but there was contact) and he went hard to the ice off balance.

Yes I believe that could shake a player up enough to warrant him taking some time to get up - maybe he got the wind knocked out of him, maybe he had his bell rung...but its not like he embellished a non-hit. He got hit, he went down, he stayed down - even if you're right doesnt change the fact that the hit itself was late and high. Stupid argument and dumb to automatically assume you know its embellishment.
