I also agree it was stupid I was just using it to make a point. Emelin is ok which is good and Burrows is suspended whether it was intentional or not.

It was close but I think both players need to take responsibility, so I'm okay with Burrows being suspended. However I'm not okay with the nhl's inconsistency. That play was worth 3 games, yet Duncan Keith jumping into an elbow at a players head and attempting and succeeding to hurt a player is worth 5??? I think in that instance it should have been 20 games. Being an elite player should not allow them to play dirty.

Also real fines...not 5 grand...go on something like 4% of total salary first offence, 8% 2nd, 15% 3rd, 25% 4th. After a player looses 52% there shouldn't be a 5th offence I'd hope. 5 grand for some of those guys is the equivalent of us getting a $5 ticket for speeding...

I would love to see a sliding-rule suspension/fine structure implemented; however, there is absolutely zero chance that the NHLPA would allow such a thing to be incorporated into a future collective bargaining agreement. I think it's basically a non-starter (as is the case with guaranteed contracts).

If it ever comes to it, especially the latter contract issue I think we would not see hockey for a very long time. These are the types of issues that players would be willing to shut things down for whatever length of time required. What's the over-under on the how long the next work stoppage is (note that the expiration of the current agreement is Sep 19, 2019 - and we have already seen many loop-holes exposed by the legal beagles for both sides, loopholes that each faction want addressed for their benefit)
