Thing is, Edmonton isn't screaming for defence right now...they're looking at trading Petry, for crying out loud. They feel they need help elsewhere. There's also no point in trading back up goaltenders right now, either...they have Budaj in the system if they really feel the need.
So I suggest this:
To EDM: Sven Andrighetto/Michael Bournival, Rene Bourque, Travis Moen, 1st round pick
To MTL: Jordan Eberle, 2nd round pick
The Andrighetto/Bournival piece helps them at centre, whereas the Bourque and Moen pieces gives them some size, grit, and leadership, not to mention some cap space for MTL...Eberle is on a 6m/year contract...that money has got to come from somewhere. If EDM feels they need more, offer Nygren as well. |

If they trade Eberle they are going to want quality, you seem to be leaning more to quantity. |

I get that the conversation is about MacTavish, but seriously, a player (no matter if it's Andri or Bournival) whose potential is less than Eberle, plus 3 spare parts, plus a pick that eh don't need? |

There's no such thing as a pick that they don't need.... Ask Toronto. I agree with the quantity over quality argument, but let's face it... They have TALENT coming out their butts, but they have no heart and grit. The selling point with Bourque is he has the POTENTIAL to be an impact player that will score you 25. Bournival can bring crash and bang, and be good defensively... Andrighetto brings more scoring touch if they want to go that way. Moen brings leadership, and loads of heart, which they desperately need. Edmonton is not likely to find an impact player with that heart in a one to one trade, because no team is going to want to give up that one player. |
