Perron is the best fit for the Penguins out of those options. - Ryan_Wilson
All have their downsides (hence why they are tradeable). Perron has concussion issues. Yakupov has many "issues". Williams is 33 and most likely is a pure rental. Plus, ya know, that whole Conn Smythe thing may over inflate his value. Playoff performance is usually such a small sample size that GM's make bad decisions based off "proven playoff performers". I do think you know what you are getting with Williams though.
Guys like Yakupov or Perron, the sky is the limit putting them next to Sid or Geno.
We can either make one blockbuster trade to bring in younger wingers with term. Or make a hockey trade and address a weakness without mortgaging the future.
If Voynov's cap hit is off the books, the Kings definitely could take on Martin's salary. |

How many games would you say starts to give a more real impression of players stats wise? 20, 25, etc? - Guile
I think you can start to have better conversations about these types of things around that same range you just said 20-25 games. Obviously the more the better. Four games is minuscule. Certainly not large enough to start ignoring seasons of past history with players. |

Ehrhoff is being buried in the defensive zone much like Goc. He is the only defenseman under 50% and he's at 43%.
It is impacting his possession.
Trust the seasons of data you have on him, not these four games. - Ryan_Wilson
What where his stats last year? |

Depending on the plus Perron would be my first choice. I'm confident Goc and Spaling could fill in the 3 and 4 c roles to replace Sutter. However I love our young stable of defenseman but I'm not sure any of them are ready for 25 minutes a night against quality competition for 82 games plus playoffs. |

WHY IS GOC ON AS A WINGER?!?!?! Holy poop man, Even Ryan is going to get mad at you for that. Goc is a Center, and a great value one for our bottom six. Put Spaling or Downie on the 3rd line wing, and have Goc man the 4th line. |

Relevant article to the situation. From Oct. 14, but with Voynov out w/ a suspension & his Cap Hit remaining it fits the current situation as well.

You noticed that but you didn't notice Scuderi's contract?
Bottom 6 is mostly interchangable. I just threw it together quickly. Goc has played lots of wing, it isn't that outrageous. But sure, I'm fine with Goc centering the fourth. Just making the third line as potent as possible for poops and giggles. |

When conducting a scientific experiment 9 is the minimal acceptable standard. Then it doesn't really change until you get over forty. However variables are:
He is on a new team.
The quality of the measurements and the person measuring them.
Does he stay with the same players? |

Would rather find a younger top 6 piece for Martin, Williams is also off to a pretty slow start this year. I think a Martin-Perron swap is realistic and beneficial to both teams and if Edmonton continues to lose the fan base is going to put pressure on MacTavish to find a defenseman of high caliber. Does Martin have a NMC? That's really one of the few things holding that deal up.
On a completely unrelated note.. Kapanen with a goal and 3 assists in his first 3 games |

Just saw Martin to tampa for Killorn and a 2nd over on HF. What do you guys think? Obviously we make Tampa stronger which is scary but we get back a nice young player 2.5 mil in cap space and a 2nd we can use both at the TDL? |

Martin has a NMC I believe and I would bet Edmonton is not somewhere he'd go. |

They don't need a defenseman. Hedman being out a month isn't going to shake their foundation. They are good, they will survive. |

why would resigning him be out? even if he got a raise he would still make as much or less than martin and the caps going up. - ChrisMS
Because he is 33. This team is old enough in the top 6 as it is. |

I think if Martin would wave to go to Edmonton a trade with them will have already happened.
I'd like to see a trade with Edmonton personally, I think we each have what the other needs. Sutter + dman prospect. I would go for Yakupov, I watch a lot of Edmonton games and Yak is always putting in the effort. Perron is nice, but the ceiling for Yak is very high, especially when he can learn next to Sid and Geno. Yak plays with that high tempo that Sid plays with and I'd like more of it.
If we're trading with LA, isn't Mike Richards playing 4th line? I'd target him, same salary as Martin. |

Im still on the Martin for McGinn deal if the Avs blow another lead in the 3rd period. But I would want to Send a dman with him too. Could McGinn and Ryan Wilson (UFA) for Martin and a small kicker work out? |
