Rumours were that Methot turned down a $4.7 x 5 deal to stay in hometown Ottawa. I think him & his agent are lookin for a bit more like the Brooks Orpik deal.
Ottawa will most likely extend him at $5 x 5 after he returns from injury & has a clean bill of heath.
EDIT: I guess that's the 2014-2015 going rate for a true #3 D Man under the age of 30. |

Probably a high level prospect or a mid-level prospect and a pick.
Easy to forget that he scored at a 40 goal pace just two years ago, and a 30 goal per season pace over his last 120 games. - BINGO!
Would do that in a heartbeat if i were the Pens front office. Tlusty would be a force playing on Malkin's wing. |

Please... just stop... - saskoil21
No hes right. I know you dont want to get fleeced in a deal but every team knows the Oilers need help on D and top 4 D men dont come cheap. The only ones who did this off season were given up out of cap constraints (Boychuk, Leddy)
If you want to get you have to give. You dont have much value to trade outside the obvious (Hall, Eberle, RNH, Nurse, Drais, Yam) |

How is that a dream? They arnt trading him for a Hal Gill there need is future top pairing D they have a ton of D that at bottom 4 pairing that are good. Its that they have no top pairing. - jake24242
I agree with you that they aren't going to hand him away, but he's lost the value that comes along with a high level prospect when they haven't seen NHL action yet. Teams are wiling to pay more for more chance at an upside, even though it's a bigger risk when they haven't played yet. Once they've been in the league and haven't panned out as hoped teams look at the much lower chance that they ever will. Look at Kyle Turris for example (and no I'm not comparing Yakupov to turris as players).
Yakupov still has value obviously, but it's really taken a beating. In all honesty they'd probably have to add more to the trade to land a legitimate top 2 D, that's a big hole for a team to open up. |

In all fairness, the Orpik deal is complete garbage. I like him as a player, but that contract is ridiculous. |

Tlusty took 12 faceoffs last season.
He's a winger. Not a center. |

Whats NATHAN BEAULIEU projected ceiling. - jake24242
"Ceiling", I would say top pairing D. He's the best skater I've seen in a long, long time. But he's nowhere near being there yet, and it's hard to say whether it's probable at all with such limited NHL time. I'm not sure he helps Edmonton at all in the next year or two. |

Completely agree with you Cap, but if Orpik got that deal last summer from being a UFA, I can just imagine what Marc Methot would get from a team like Edmonton. |

And signed to a reasonable contract.
I'm sure if Tlusty were to actually be available Rutherford would be calling Francis incessantly. |
