I would never talk to an Oilers' fan in a bar.
I didn't mean Oilers' fans specifically thought a 1st=dynasty, but after Crosby/Ovechkin plenty of NHL fans cheered for the tank and thought all it took was a 1st overall pick, it just became over-romanticized. - Fotiu666
Fair enough.
I'm a little defensive, because some other fans have a tendency to project arrogance onto oilers players and management when really they've probably just been grated by a couple of oilers homers who kept shouting "tankin=1sts=cupzzz" ad nauseum.
I don't even think we picked poorly, but Chicago, LA, Pittsburgh (and even Washington) did a good number of supplemental moves that swayed the fortunes of the club that the oil are certainly behind on. |

The first period of the first 2 games I felt we played great hockey, the kind where we could compete every night. But then they just lost it. - Oilfan19
Yeah, that's about it. I wonder what it was. the wrong adjustments? did we get gassed? I noticed as the Flames game went on they were pushing the tempo. With all the firepower we've got we should never be getting outskated. |

If you think you are going to lose, you're going to lose.
You can say people are overreacting and yada yada yada, but there is no way the Oilers are going to have a successful season because they just don't believe in themselves.
I watched a poopty ass Flames team compete hard all last year and somehow finish ahead of the Oilers despite having (on paper) far less talent. But it's all about chemistry and attitude, which is the responsibility of the GM, Coach, and Organization to en-stile.
Bottom line...it's not happening with this crew. Something major has to be done.

Aside from thoughts of "tanking" (which is an insult to real fans); what are your real thoughts, Oiler Fans (tiers one and two alike) for the shames looking better than us this year? They do look better , and:
1) they don't have the top shelf talent we do (who would you need to get from the flames in a trade for Perron, eberle, Hall, Nuge, Yakupov or even Schultz?)
2) they don't have that much of a support cast... Their best D is Ladi Smid!
3) Jonas Hiller is better than our goalies, I will give them that...
So, I don't see how another top shel talent gives guts and compete to this team. I think this IS a coaching problem.

A win tonight would help alot...be nice to see them getting a win so they dont head home winless and maybe go from there but Eakins has to ice the best team he can because clearly his experiment failed big time against the kings - RatedR80
Seems every game is an experiment with Eakins. I just don't think he's being consistent with his strategy or messages so the players are not responding to anything he does. We've no choice but to axe him; unless the actual plan of management is to go all out for McDavid, then we'll be stuck with Eakins all year. |

Zach Bogosian/3rd for Jordon Eberle....
Oilers get their big Dman that can hit, skate and shoot the puck.
Jets get some skill to compliment their speed/transition game. - jetsfan6

I have to think the plan is for Ramsay to take control if Eakins fails. But even with a new coach it still doesn't make up for the lack of good NHL d-men.
Ramsay is already working with the d core, if he is head coach how is that going to change much? - Lahey
I wonder about this.
There was so much optimism about Ramsay and the defence. But since we've been struggling defensively, no mention of him at all. It's all Eakins fault.
I have a sneaking suspicion that the haters would be praising Ramsay wholeheartedly if our defence was playing well.
But since it's struggling, it's all Eakins fault.

You need to send more than Petry, then. I'm not totally against the idea, but need more. |

Oh totally. He'd do so much for the oilers
I assumed he was just underrated and forgotten by east coasters who never get to see him.
But that post was surprising.
I think giordano's gonna get some serious love for the Norris this year. And rightly so |

I tend to agree. We need accountability. You can only fire so many coaches and GM's and bring in so many supporting players. At some point that core 4 or 5 need to be held accountable.
We have a LW-C-RW and a D that are always considered our main core pieces. All of which are considered to be top end players by management. If they are considered this then why the heck aren't they taking this team on their backs and getting them out of the lotto.
The work ethic is what bothers me the most |

I will give it some time as two key pieces were banged up during camp, but it'll be interesting to see Ramsay's adjustments. |
