Ference is a nice guy, but before the Bruins won that cup, would you have targeted him as your leader for your team going forward. And wasn't he the 4th best Dmen on that team, behind Seidenburg, Boychuck and Chara?
I think just think W. Mitchell is one of those guys that can calm a team down, and really show them the way.
No offense to Ference I just see him as this happy go lucky hippie guy, not the guy I'd want leading me into battle. - moondawg
Hey, Im not saying that Ference is a great leader or a great dman because IMO he blows. But to have both Ference and Mitchell on this roster makes no sense. I never wanted Ference on this team and I think the fact that he is wearing that C is an absolute abomination. |

And this makes our team a contender? Not to mention the lightning laugh at this. - Oilfan19
? No of course it wouldn't. You made a sarcastic remark about 'everyone's available so let's get Crosby and Stemmer'. I just replied to that remark alone. Has nothing to do with making the oil better. Plus, TB would not laugh.
Our point is that good players have changed teams lately and the oil have missed out. That is why they are in the position they are now. Management has not done their job supplementing the talent with capable role-players.
You can't argue that. |

I think they have done a decent job at bringing in role players. Purcell was a solid pick up. The problem is that #2C, our defense and a lack of a system/coaching to lead this team. Eakins just tells em to go out there and play.
Purcell
Gordon
Pouliot
Perron
Hendricks
All good role player pick ups, and upgraded on what we had. |

Remember you are signing some of these guys for what they would do in practice, in the locker room, and on the bench. Not always what they would be doing on the ice.
W. Mitchell would have taught your youth how to be men in the NHL. He did it in LA. - moondawg
Willie Mitchell didn't do a (frank)ing thing in L.A. |

It's doesn't really matter, as long as Ference is here there is no reason to bring a guy in to play on the bottom pairing to be a vet presence. |

Yes, agreed. I think there are many good pieces on the Oilers. Just missing those Vets to hold them together when things get shaky.
I bet LA doesn't win a cup this year, and one of the reasons is Mitchell. The guy was very good on their back end, he brought that team calmness and control. When he was out with injury last year, they were not as good a team.
One of those players I hated Gillis for not signing, and he let him walk as a UFA to LA. |

If he thinks Gagner's a 70 point man then I'd imagine Eberle is Gretzky 2.0 |

You should get a pick back, too, because Eberle is signed...maybe a 3rd |

Like with the players, management etc. us hb posters don't have a say in the hiring of our blogger.
Or were u speaking to a higher power?
Also, u talk about getting too hasty about calling for mcdavid, but then make reference to nuge hitting his ceiling at 21 years of age.....
Good post - hugefemale dog77
You missed the sarcasm in the Nuge/2C thing. I didn't state he had reached his ceiling. I was recounting what the blogger wrote - I was caught off guard... last I heard he was an untouchable.
And no, you don't pick your blogger, but you sure stick up for him like you did. First Cloutier and now this guy!? I'm not mocking your team; I'm mocking your blogger.

sh1t....tough one
i think with the current 'sky is falling' climate..most of us, myself included, is inclined to take the yotes players there. vermette is a helluva defensive center. that can play.
but pure value, and on our team? i dunno. how much difference does yandle make in terms of what we actually need is the question.
ima huge fan of two way guys. petry is a solid player. just tries to do too much sometimes.
it seems mact is more a fan of; half pluggish defensive stay at home guys, and half offensive puck movers that are a mess without the puck.
i dont really get it.
one thing i will say about yandle is even though hes sheltered and has some defensive woes, hes physical and mean. he likes to engage. i think that makes up for a ton of his shortcomings |

im not trying to pick a fight, but this is just sooooo wrong. mitchell hurt half the time and aging provides more than ference. leadership? sure. but his stick and defensive play when hes healthy is phenomenally good. |

I'm pretty far from throwin in the towel just yet.....but you gotta ask yourself.......Is Eakins Insane or what? If you're David Perron wouldn't you be upstairs begging to be traded....asking..."after scoring the most goals on the team last season and 3rd overall in points.....Why the hell am I on the 3rd line?"
Petry was our steadiest D-Man last season....albiet of a lousy team....yet he sits him because of lack of playing time in the preseason Going up against a team that is going to hand you your ass anyway....especially with RNH aka "the goon" and Eberle sitting this on out.
Why would you not send Hall out for the shoot out in Vancouver? Why would you send Marincin down to the minors after the surprising body of work he did last? Why would you sit Nurse in 2 games we could have won and play him in the LA game? LA has psycho's too.....Nolan, Clifford, Regehr......if you thought you were protecting the kid.
Why would any sane man leave the "C" hanging the on Ferance after last season resounding success?
You don't have to fire the man....just take him out back and explain it to him...Oh wait....I forgot ...there's nobody left that is willing to do that. - Rhino I agree with 100% of this.

"Embrace the suck"?
I've heard of troll bloggers, hell I even read one here for a while, but you're supposed to be trolling other teams fans, not the ones who cheer for the team you're writing about.
You're a drama queen dude, and while I keep hoping you'll write something entertaining, I see it just ain't gonna happen. - BigDre
I think Garner is a generational troll. I just feel like telling him to F CK OFF. At least you knew Cloutier was a drunk or something, this guy just needs a date. |
