I too would listen. Not shop him but listen. For example, if FLD wants to throw a deal with Barkov and Kulikov/or/Gudbranson then yes I'm listening. It would need to be youth and probably a 2 for one. I agree it is a re-build at that point. Throw the season and get a very high draft pick to boot. It could only happen around December IMHO and only if they are dead in the water (which sadly could happen).

But he's signed through 2018-19 which is what worries me. If it was $3m per in that span, it would be a lot easier to swallow.

we have amac and streit....Myers seriously worries you, a guy who is playing 20 plus minutes a night on the worst team in the league

Sorry if I offended you.

No, on 2nd thought, I'm not.

Any consideration of trading Giroux at this present moment is utterly ridiculous.

You make the move on Giroux because what? McDavid or Eichel? What happens when we get neither of them? Then what?

Exactly.

The Flyers are big boys, they've been wildly inconsistent for the past six years. Philosophically they have to change. That's what Hextall brings to the table.

But we're all going to need a little patience.

Streit ain't bad and is only signed for another 2 years. Can't do much about AMac though but we can avoid Myers!

Point is if they dont get myers theyll overpay for a free agent...id rather get a young guy with some upside...gives kids some time to grow, instead of being rushed....i wouldnt exactly equate schenn to JVR and Myers to luke schenn...i think this might end up working out well for the flyers.

If adding Myers meant he and Coburn would be the top pairing, and let Mac and Streit play together on the second pairing, I think it could be a good move.

Roll this group out for offensive zones starts as much as possible and watch the shots and goals pile up.

Well they got the d pairing from the atrocious Islanders franchise covered.

I wonder if Holmgren has a premonition from his old Whalers days about reuniting Adam Burt and Zarley Zalapski.

So G for McDavid straight up?
Simple- Yes.

McDavid is projected to be a generational talent ala Crosby. And would be hitting his prime the same time as our D prospects. Simple answer.

- coffee junkie

I don't think the team with the #1 pick will want to trade it, IMO.

If they did, the Flyers would have to be all in for a total rebuild. I like McDavid a lot and thing he could be the best player in the world in his prime but it's also possible that he could be a bust. It would be a tough call and would set the tone for how the organization will do business going forward.

Lack of talent is no excuse for just standing around or running around the zone like a decapitated chicken. Yes, Montreal may have had the better roster that night, but in the 3rd period the Flyers weren't even playing basic Hockey 101.
- BiggE

It looked like total system collapse when the Habs started to bring it... seems like they just don't have the talent/ability/sense to survive when the team game evaporates.

I agree as a single piece it looks risky, but when you look at the defense it pushes everyone else into better roles...you wont have amac playing first pairing minutes.

Schenn is incapable of being a first pair guy.

First off, IF, I was going to trade Giroux and wanted to land McDavid, I certainly don't make the deal until after the draft lottery. Secondly, I wouldn't trade him for just McDavid, but if team like, I don't know, say Florida gets the first pick and is willing to add Ekblad to the deal as well, I'm going to think long and hard about it.

And, I have no problem with patience. I want to see how this plays out and I have no problem going through the season with the current roster.

Question: even w/ Myers, do you think this team is anywhere close to the Cup?

I don't think they will overpay for a free agent though. Their only dmen they got from free agency are Streit and Schultz. The rest they traded for and extended and that was all done under Holmgren. I think Hextall is committed to letting the young defensemen come in partly because it will be less burden on the salary cap.

Here is a hypothetical:

You have the option to trade giroux for this years #1 pick...Do you do it?

- PhillaBully

How about...

If you were, say, Buffalo/Carolina, would you trade the first overall for Giroux?

They didnt overpay this year because they thought they were getting timmo at bargain prices....you cant leave this defense as is for next year or your going to throw away next year...personally id keep morin and ghost on the phantoms next year then bring them up the folowing year

No. Which is part of the reason I wouldn't make the deal. It would be a short term fix but could hamper them from re-signing players in the future.

Myers would be a band-aid, IMO. I'd rather just have patience and let what happens happen.

Once the draft order is set, teams that net 1st and 2nd-overall in this draft will not be moving those picks... even for Giroux+.

Only way anybody's trading into one of those picks is if it's a Kessel kind of trade, where one team is completely deluded about how bad they are, and mistakenly think they're one piece away. I see the Flyers being the Leafs in that kind of trade, more so than the Bruins.

so who is going to be your top pairing for the next three years? Amac and coburn? Then waht you expect Ghost and morin to come in as rookies and play a top pairing role?

I think any team will trade an unknown NHL quantity for a guy who is (relatively) young and just got a Hart Trophy nomination.

No, but I don't think the Schenns are going to be part of a Cup team here, so swapping them for a 24 year old is worth considering.
