Man looking back at the 2010 draft, very high rate of success so far. Too bad we didn't have a pick

#Canucks did get younger and deeper but still are the 29th oldest team in the league with an average age of 28.8 years. Devils are eldest.

I hope Tortz is waiting out back to kick the crap out of Hartley before the game.

All due respect, one look at that lineup tells me you don't "earn" a spot as much as you are present and available.
- AlexF

That (joke, I assume) is contradictory to the fact that two established veterans are healthy scratches.

Crazy to think as well how few players actually do become NHLers who were drafted. I count 20 who have already made a difference and 8-12 who are close, guys like Etem, Connolly etc.

Of those 20, 15 are in the first round..... can really see how foolish it is to give up first round picks in this day and age.

#Flames lines versus #Canucks :
Glencross-Colborne-Hudler;
Raymond-Backlund-Bouma;
Gaudreau-Byron-Jones;
Bollig-Stajan-McGrattan
Holy McDavid that is quite a lineup.

- fiveandagame

Jesus, is that seriously the line-up that an NHL team is going with for opening night? Apparently the Flames have grown tired of watching the Oilers draft ahead of them. How on Earth did Bouma manage to pull scoring line duty at RW, when he's a natural LW/C with just 19pts in over 120 career NHL games, plus just 27pts in 95 career AHL games? Don't get me wrong - I liked Bouma a lot when he was with the Giants, but an NHL scoring line player he is not.

On the flip side, the Canucks really better beat these guys tonight, because it's not going to get much easier than that.

Hartley is a joke of a coach. Nice lineup ya putz. Its Burke hackey.

Not surprised Hartley hasn't received a new contract.

But honestly, I hope he does. It will doom the Flames development of their youth.

- moondawg

First of all, Hartley is a coach, not a GM. GMs put together the team, coaches coach that team. You are saying Hartley is a bad coach because of the players he has available.

Second of all, Hartley took basically the same lineup last year and finished only two spots behind the Sedins and Kesler all-star show.

Third of all, Hartley's done a fantastic job with all of our young guys, and has guys buying in more than most teams in the league. That can only be a good thing for the development of our youth.

But other than that, solid post.

That site does have 25 players listed, I assume if Horvat and Corrado are not included the age is closer to the other guy's numbers.

I know people are still talking about a draft deep enough to compare to 2003 but I think people will be heralding the 2010 draft as almost/just as good pretty soon. Lots of players already making an impact

Over/under 19.5 goals would be a good bet for them.

Btw, it's a shame that you'll be my first victim in the fantasy league this week.

That Calgary line up is suspect. That is a team jockeying for draft position one game 1. I expect the Canucks to again beat the Flames at every meeting this year. Any loses are wasted points.

Our D looks pretty weak with Bieksa and Corrado out. Weber and Stanton aren't my favourites. I'm hopeful to see a bit more out of Stanton this year and hopefully Weber brings his skillset to the PP more than he previously has.

Welcome back, hockey!

........Hahahaha, the rebuild begins tonight!
- HughJasscok

So it didn't start when you picked Gagner 6th, Eberle 22nd, Paajarvi 10th, Hall 1st, RNH 1st, Yakapov 1st, Nurse 4th but with Draisaitl 3rd overall.

You can't just begin the rebuild again every year, make up your mind.

Or it speaks to the judgement of your coach. I honestly don't care either way. Credit to you for coming on here and defending the cause though.

Yea, I don't get it. Guy was a standout last year while he was healthy. All I can picture is Gillis on his hands and knees digging through the heap of manure that is the waiver wire looking for gold nuggets and against all odds pulled out Ryan Stanton. Also don't know how losing Corrado to injury is detrimental. At this point Weber is a better option
