I mean who's kidding who here. The canucks have a legitimate first line and three 4th lines. I'm a fan and all but all this talk about how they have improved I don't understand. I fully expect them to be worse, and I don't think that's a bad thing. A couple more decent draft picks and they can re-load.

Just because a guy gets traded for kesler doesn't make him a 2nd line centre ... and burrows and higgins are third liners at this stage of their career at best. I like them as players, but nowhere near having the consistency to be a reliable 2nd line scoring threat.

Wow, you've been a member of this site since 2007 and this is the first time (I think) I've seen you post. I've noticed that a lot lately. Long time members that have just recently started to post (at least more frequently).

I was a lurker for a few years but I just couldn't keep my opinions to myself.

Nice to see so much optimism here after a long summer...

To be fair, it's more like three third lines not fourth lines…makes a world of difference

It's funny. If the team happens to exceed expectations, it'll be "I knew it was just Torts bringing us down... I knew our team was better than it showed last year"

This is the avatar I carried for years on here. I use it during the hockey season just to piss people off. And it works. The building is my off season avatar.

Yeah took awhile to remember the ole login. I've popped over here fairly regularly to read whomver the canucks blogger is. I don't bother reading the edlund stuff, realized long ago that's less credible than the gossip mags by the checkout at the grocery store.

Maybe all the rosy coloured glasses are bringing folks like myself to comment ... and it's not just here, sports networks too. I was at a fantasy draft last night (11 team) and the sedins coulda been had anywhere in the first 4 rounds. I did take Vrbata though, from what I saw in pre-season, dude shoots everything. I'm all for the management change and turning the page, but to think this team is actually better, I don't get that.

What a useless pick up Sbisa was.

I can confidently say that he will be a bust (for a 19th overall pick).

- bloatedmosquito

I just hope he focuses on the defensive, physical play and less on the possession, play driving sphere of the game.

He can hit, skate and the clear the net. Enough with the god dam puck dribbling and counter productive rushes.

I believe there's questions marks all over the place so it's tough to say that they'll be better or worse. Just how much did the Kesler situation impact the team. Same with Torts - how did his coaching philosophy affect the play of the team. Was it just a coincidence that most of the vets had off years or are they just getting old?

While I don't see a top 3 finish in store, I do see this team being at least more competitive than last year. Anywhere from 6th to 10th in the confrence wouldn't surprise me at all.

I'm guessing you just weren't very good, baseball is hella fun to play unless you suck at it
- 1970vintage

I was decent. Pretty solid on base % and my arm was average. Very slow though If I am going to play a sport I would rather spend my time moving and engaging in the play than waiting 10 minutes for something to happen, at which point you probably won't do anything anyways
Edit: Also couldn't stand the tendonitis in the elbow (my fault for throwing sidearm like an idiot), which basketball made way worse

Or being in the Connor McDavid sweepstakes vs. just missing the playoffs.

I honestly don't know what to expect, so there's some hope I suppose. Good to have some hockey back in our lives though.

This. Only one line is problematic (in theory - lots of guys due for bounceback seasons)

Absolutely. As both a Leafs and Canucks fan for hockey, Jays and a Bills/Jets fan in the NFL, I'm used to dealing with lowered expectations.

Pierre apparently says the Canucks are the most improved team after the moves and new coach.
