This sounds an awful lot like the sens and Alfie situation. I think Lou is lieing and likely offered him league minimum like he did Bernier. I would of turned it down to.

I initially thought this but I doubt Carter would come back on a tryout just to get a minimum contract when its clear he would have had offers elsewhere. I think Carter wanted to see if a better offer was coming and Lou didn't want to let all his 4th liners go so he signed Bernier and Gionta.

I'm not blaming Carter at all, see my post above about how classy he was to say nothing but good things about the Devils after arguably being jerked around this summer.

Yeah, I didn't think you hated him now or anything, but even if he signed with NY or Philly I couldn't really blame the guy. If a player of that caliber thinks moving to a rival team will extend their careers then they have to do it.

What are they doing over there seems like they are always adding players and never losing them? what happens with Coyle and Nino ? I would love to snake Nino from them lol It seems weird that they have Parise, Koivu, Pommenville, Vanek, Coyle, Granlund,Coyle and Nino and now Carter ( fourth liner obviously ) but it seems like someone would be playing on a lower line then they should hell I wouldnt mind Coyle either lol

Same. I do find it really hard to believe that Carter would pay his own insurance and go all the way till now with out signing with another team because he over valued himself. This is Lou we are talking about he is a cheap Bastard and I bet the offer he supposedly made and was turned down was one that was putrid. Has no problem throwing out big bucks to the big name free agents if you will be he loves to low ball everyone else.

Thats a lot of money, an extra 125 thousand but I get what you are saying since its two way. When I say a lot of money I mean for a fourth liner who might not know how many more contracts he will get you need to scoop up all the coin you can but Lou Richarded Gelinas around and was trying to pay him less the Larsson when he is already more valuable to the team then Larsson.

I don't think they really know. They were doing a solid job rebuilding when they signed suter and parise, but that kinda kicked them into win now mode. They'll probably have some cap trouble in the future.

Carter's agent probably cost him some money. Lou probably offered him around 1 mil in july but simply didn't have the roster spot to sign him when Carter realized he wasn't getting a better offer.

I don't think they really know. They were doing a solid job rebuilding when they signed suter and parise, but that kinda kicked them into win now mode. They'll probably have some cap trouble in the future.

thats what I'm thinking.. blizzard is right in that 125K is a lot for a 4th liner but i doubt he was offered the minimum...Gionta got $825K so I'm thinking Carter would've been offered somewhere between 825 - 1 mil being that he is the best player of the 3 imo

I don't think he low balled him, it doesn't sound like he offered him a contract at all. TG just said Lou said that right now there just isn't a roster spot for him. Wasn't a matter of money.

Possibly, I've only seen Schieffle a couple times but his production was solid last season. I don't think Winnipeg does it because it seems they are already going to get rid of Kane at some point and have a solid defense.
