Can someone please explain the benefit in sending Nylander back to Europe, versus playing him in the AHL?

I don't see why we wouldn't want him playing on the NHL-sized ice while developing...

Detroit model. They have had pretty good success developing players, particularly Swedes.

Let players develop correctly and at their own pace. Complete their junior level and eventually play in the ahl or with their European team before playing with the Leafs.

and arguably more importantly, playing in SEL doesn't burn a year of his ELC, thus getting us a free year of development in that regard.

definitely, the little advantages that need be utilized to get cap gains over other teams.

That's the main push factor back to Sweden. The best argument for the AHL I've heard is Dineen can focus on placing Nylander in the best situations to succeed, a coach in Sweden won't care.

So pretty much the money part which for the leafs isn't a huge concern.

disagree. maximizing utility out of low $ players is hugely important to success in a cap world.

If a coach is dumb enough to take the job in Toronto I'm not even sure I want him.

That's awesome! Kinda like wanting the Girl that pepper sprayed you more than the ones that gave you the time of day.

well, not money, cap.

He'll have a low cap hit for an extra year if he goes back to Sweden vs AHL

I'm probably setting this wrong, but are the Leafs dictating the pace of the game?
