Gagne will be great this year.
Slide Ribeiro to his left wing and Vrbata on the right side, and you have a solid second line.
Oh, wait... Never-mind.
:p
On the bright side, McDavid and Domi will be awesome together...
In 3 years...
In Seattle.

I would normally respond to this kind of comment with a hilarious quip about the amount of free time you apparently have, but when you're right, you're right. I will do better in the future not to make this error. - James_Tanner
I hope you realize I was offering friendly advice, not attacking you.
It was a lucky break that I managed to pay attention during 3rd grade english class, while you were busy organizing your pog collection.
Also, Ek doesn't want you hilariously quipping about people with too much spare time. You might offend 90% of his season ticket holders and inspire them to find a new hobby... or a girlfriend... or gainful employment.

I doubt it. but who knows. That might not even be accurate, numbers can be tricky. But it's hard to say. Still very concerning. - James_Tanner
Yup, according to the article the value of the franchise has gone up by 80% in one year; despite $24M in losses. Hard to believe, unless someone thinks the value is moving the franchise or the losses are overstated.
I'm interested to see some more details on this one. |

Wait a minute...
You get paid for this???
Well played.
If anything, your blogs are good for a laugh.

Seriously though, don't ever stop doing what you do. Ever though I rarely agree with you, I respect your passion as a fan, and your willingness to engage in some smack talk. It's all about having fun, and every party is better with a clown.

What I meant was that I thank you for making a good point, as opposed to some who pop in just to tell you you made a typo. There's a difference.
Never did have a pog collection. Also, contrary to popular belief, English class won't help your spelling, as I have an MA....no, what helps spelling is not relying on spell check, and carefully re-reading your work. This is difficult when you publish almost as soon as you write and don't have the luxury of an editor.

You make a good point here, which is why you can't really read too much into these kind of speculative numbers. What the NHL considers a loss, what you do, what I do, what the owners of the team and their accountants do, are all likely to be different.
For instance, if Ice Arizona makes a profit on the sale and retains 49%, how they could argue a loss is beyond me, as are, it should be noted, most things mathematical. |

I think the calculation for losses is specified in the lease and generally is hockey related activities, i.e. not capital.
There can be a lot of timing differences in the accounting for the losses. The one that comes to my mind is including Riberio's buyout of +$11M in last year's loss vs. spreading it out over the years the payments are made. |

I appreciate the fact that you are enthusiastic about your team, But... Your point totals for those players are a stretch at best. But...I also appreciate the fact that you come back on here to admit that you were a little over zealous with your point predictions once you settled back to earth from the puffy white cloud that you were floating on. Honestly with the teams head coach offense is going to be hard to come by from anyone. I really like the Yote's players, Just hate watching the style that they are forced to play. Although admittedly it is their best chance to win night in, night out.
The playoffs are going to be hard to reach for the Yote's(imo). Yes they can do it, It's just that the west is so damn tough. And although they only missed by three points, Most of the western teams got even better. And the Yote's can be argued either way as to whether they got better or worse. The defense will carry this team only so far before the forwards will have to step up as well. It remains to be seen whether they will do that or not.
Good luck this season! |

Just wondering if you realize that his career average is 50 points per 82 games? He's had some bad injury luck, but if he manages to stay healthy - big IF I know - then he is a virtual lock for 50 and at age 25 stands a good chance for improvement.
Also, he was not on the first PP or first line in Edmonton. I don't know about first line, but he should at least get a ton of PP time in PHX. - James_Tanner
I'm wondering if YOU realize his career average is 50 points per 82 games... 50 is a far cry from 70. He's not playing with much better players than he was in Edmonton. |

Ok, you got me.
I feel silly for guaranteeing a playoff spot for the Cannots now.
Oh wait... That was professional comedian, errrr, Yotes Fanboy James "bet your rent money" Tanner that made a guarantee.
I have no delusions about the state of my team.
We will not be good enough to make any noise in the playoffs, or bad enough to make any strides for the future.
That doesn't disqualify me from poking fun at JT does it?
BTW, when are the Leafs unveiling their championship banner?
(Yeah, I know, 5 years before the Canucks and 15 years before The Seattle Coyotes)
In theory, I have the potential to not masturbate to the sears catalogue , but lets be realistic here.....

I'd be very surprised if their accountants didn't book the full-cost of the Riberio termination in their June 30, 2014 fiscal year; to give the purported $24M loss numbers some context. |

The team is doing so well that the current owners can't wait to sell majority ownership only a year later
Doesn't matter how you spin it...
The ongoing losses make the team more valuable because in 4 more years they can move it somewhere else... |

Nah, JT is all class baby. I would never do that - the I told you so's will be doled out slowly over the course of the season!

Domi back to junior eh? Weird, a few months ago I said this would be the case to which you "guaranteed" he would be a Yote insinuating I had no clue what I was talking about even though I've seen virtually every game of his since entering the OHL.
Anyways, just stopping in to say hello.....and bwahahaha. |

The way I see it the Coyotes will need a whole lot of things to go right to make the playoffs in the west.
Anaheim, San Jose, LA are pretty much locks for the top 3 in the Pacific, which puts them in a tough spot from the get-go. Coyotes are nowhere near as strong as those 3 powerhouses.
Central will have Chicago, St Louis as locks. Colorado, Dallas, and Minny will likely battle it out for third in that division and will get at least one wildcard.
So pretty much right off the bat the coyotes are competing for a wildcard against COL, MIN, DAL, and probably VAN. EDM may be in that mix too
Barring some catastrophic collapse from one of the top teams, ARZ will HAVE to stay healthy the whole year, while having a few players have breakout/career seasons, and goaltending is going to have to be outstanding all season. Coyotes may have a balanced offence lines, but the overall firepower isn't very impressive. They won't be winning too many games by scoring 4+ goals.
They'll probably be in the mix, but the roster hasn't improved from last year. They're far more likely to regress and end up outside the top 8 in the west than inside

Guess Domi isn't gonna get into that Calder conversation after all, unless they extend the voting to include guys playing in junior. You nailed that one.
And then, you're gonna come out and tell everyone that management made a mistake by sending him back to junior. So allegedly, you know more about hockey talent than the guys running a NHL team.
I'm just so confused, why are you blogging on this site, instead of working in the Coyotes front office? |

Really? Pretty sure he already admitted he was wrong, and in so gracious a manner that not even I, one of his most frequent combatants (especially on the Domi topic) didn't feel it necessary to comment further. Sometimes you just take it.
Piling on is bad form, and worse is trolling someone who already did the right thing. |
