i personally wanted couturier, who fell into the flyers lap, but would have also been happy with either strome or hamilton, you would have thought lou would have learned from the failed bergfors, tedenby, josefson drafts that taking on overhyped swedish elite league player wasn't a smart move.
- devfan30

I think this year going forward is when you can start really judging him, I mean the guy is 21 yrs old! Couturier seems to be a good defensive center, reminds me of Zajac and Dougie hamiton looks to be good but has been paired with Chara and plays on a much better Bruins team so who really knows. Strome could turn out be special but we haven't seen enough so again I think this year going forward is when we can really start to question whether it was the right pick or not

the fact that other swedish players haven't worked out shouldn't have factored into the decision, especially bc the pick was made in 2011 not 2014

So with Stevens leaving you think they'll have Gelinas play with a little more finesse?

I don't think he'll be playing a little more of anything. Now that Deboer is unchallenged, it will be the New Jersey Peter Harrolds.

I am actually pretty optimistic about this year.

Me too. I also feel better knowing that we have our 1st round pick as a worst case scenario. That was the worst part of last year, even if we were terrible we would still be picking last.

At least now we're either good, or we'll have a good draft pick

"Goals are not something you chase after,” Cammalleri suggested. “They’re kind of the results of doing other things. For me it’s more about preparing properly and just working really hard and being committed to the craft. Then the goals kind of chase you. You don’t chase them.”

already sounds like he's buying into the Devils philosophy - working hard > scoring goals

He is going to have a good year he is a perfect fit for our system and he will be given a better opportunity then anyone to be the guy who scores the goals and small players like him never really lose a step speed wise as I wouldn't call St. Louis a slow player

Agreed, just picture how many more opportunities he would have cashed in on then when Zubrus was on the 1st line

Couturier is a poor mans version of Henrique.

Even if he doesn't, its not like we're out anything. I never understood people who made fun of us for signing Havlat cause he's old and European like the rest of our team.

I'd take Havlat on a 1 year, $1.5 deal every day of the week.

He isn't even that old though the only problem he has ever had has been injuries and I personally think being in the east will help him stay healthy it's joy like he has lost his skill like Gomez

I have no idea what's Zubrus' role is on this team. He's not a top 6 player and he isn't physical enough to be a grinder. Aside from apparently being the locker room DJ, I see no role for him on this team and continue to be frustrated with giving him a multi-year, multi-million dollar deal for producing nothing during his time with the Devils.

He has produced, but his numbers are that of a third liner. I don't see him being resigned after this contract is up, hopefully. In two years I can see our team being very young.

I think Havlat is very underrated. He is like 4 years younger w/o the beard too.

I think Cammalleri will be bad-ass.

From the THN article blizzzard recommended the other day:

"Cammalleri lifts the equivalent of a grand piano or an empty garbage dumpster"

I'm honestly counting down the days until he sustains a 2 month injury. Groin, pull, sprain, back etc. I doubt he gets through the preseason. The injury he got just hopping over the boards was scary. The man makes Gaborik look like Iron Man. Hoping for the best.

Adam Larsson will be playing in sweden next season. He will start the season playing, because of his contract status, but by christmas he will be spending most of his time in the press box.

Hedman took time to develop. So do many young d-men. Larsson will be fine. Patience isn't always the most enjoyable option but often it is the most prudent one.

First preseason game against the Rags on Monday I hope we get to see some prospects and not Sestito and McKelvie and crew.
