I thought I caught something on it after about the 198,986,753 time.

God forbid people discuss a move the Flyers made, on a Flyers message board.

That's my issue with it, pretty much. In and of itself it's a nothing deal. It's under the bury threshold, so it can be dumped in the AHL and not be a cap issue during the season.

That said, your take on Rinaldo as a player is similar to my own. He's had opportunities to take on a bigger role and hasn't been able to play well enough to make those opportunities more than a cameo appearance. He regressed last season and actually played worse than he did the season before.

Being aggressive in re-signing that kind of player shouldn't be a priority. He has a season left on his deal, and even if he had a good season, I can't see a scenario where he earns a much bigger deal than the one he signed. He got a new contract a year early coming off a bad season. I fail to see how that's a smart move by Flyers.

We do need more Eagles play-by-play by 2Real as discussed by 2Real and 2Real.

They actually brought him back for two vital games in April against Florida and Tampa Bay two weeks after he had somehow managed to headbutt Berglund's shoulder and get another concussion.

He missed 8 games down the stretch, and 7 in the playoffs. He probably wasn't completely healed from the first one. It was pretty clear that he was never right when he came back.

At least Leighton was coming off an overall solid playoff run and was actually a free agent when they re-signed him.

Not the 4th time (12-13). He was actually pretty abysmal.

No poop. There's nothing else to discuss, so the minor re-signing of a 4th line goon will get over analyzed. Tired of it? Ignore it. I ignore people/topics that I don't find interesting.

Still a chance MDZ revives himself. In that case he's not that much of a liability. Its all speculation at this point. Who knows. MDZ could also stink camp up and Ghost steals his job.

Limit his exposure to top lines as much as possible, and deploy in offensive situations as much as possible.

Del Zotto was a 22 minute a night defenseman for the Rangers in 11/12, when the Rangers were the 3rd best defensive team in the League. Now I'm sure there's a lot of factors that went into that, but he couldn't have been that much of a defensive stiff. The talent is there. He just lost his way somehow.

Im rooting hard for Rinaldo. If we see "lockout" year Rinaldo, I will be pleased. I want a guy who can draw more penalties than he takes. All while making opposing players commit mistakes because they looking over their shoulders about to get crushed with a clean hit.

However, if we see "brain transplant candidate" Rinaldo, I want him on the first bus to Allentown with a one way ticket.

Even if he never becomes a player you can trust defensively, as long as "lockout" is the guy we have on the ice, he can be used like a guided missile. When we need some strong forechecking to change the tone of the game.

There are still uses for him. I just hope the dumb doesn't win out.

Also rooting for Rinaldo. I want him to improve to the point where being an agitator is secondary to developing other areas of his game.

Wow we need training camp to start. The Rinaldo debate is funny because all it was the signing of a cheap 4th possibly 3rd line player. This move des not deter them from sending hm down or sitting him as the 13th forward. He is 24 so it is not like he couldn't develop more. He has shown he can play in the NHL. They have a forward they can throw in there without hesitation if needed to fill in on 4th line. His skating is good and yes skills might be limited but seems to be liked by the team. Everyone talked about chemisty when Harntell was traded because him and Giroux are friends. Maybe Zac is well regarded in the room too.

I think this move is nothing more then signing a reasonable priced asset. They know what they have in him and at 24 hoping maybe they ccan get a little more out of it. If not they can send him down. Every team has these players so it is not like the Flyers are the only team that signs them.

To be fair, the biggest difference between "lockout" year Rinaldo and "brain transplant candidate" Rinaldo was that the former drew penalties at a far higher rate than the former.

I'd hate to see the Flyers playing the Pens or Bolts on the road where the opposing coach has last change and can toss Crosby or Malkin or Stamkos out there against that MDZ-Streit pair.

I think the debate is, more than anything, about the 'asset' aspect. Last year he regressed and was more of a detriment, so why the hurry to re-sign him?

I get the argument, but all we can do is wait and see.
