So... "Wrapping Things Up" meant no succession plan, and basically no more postings about the Ottawa Senators by anyone? Or is there something in the works?

Ever noticed that you're essentially the only Canes fan on this site?

Yes, because most frequent other places like "Canes Country" or the team's official message board, etc.

They've long grown tired of "Eric Staal + for Dennis Grebeshkov and a 2nd (e4)" type bullpoop that pops up every year.

I don't think it would be a step back either. If anything, I think it might be a step forward. We don't have to worry about the captaincy for at least one more season, we add a top six forward, certain players get to be on cloud nine again playing with their idol (i.e. Karlsson), and he gets the send off he deserves after this season (assuming he retires).

I don't think the PR boost would be that significant. Sure, it would look nice to see Alfie on advertising again. But how silly does it look on the organization to let him leave for one year to only bring him back because they realize they made a foolish mistake?

I think it's a longshot for him to come back as much as I wish he was still a Senator. But I did sign him as a free agent in NHL 15 last night. Gave him some good coin. Really rounds out my roster nicely!

who knows. love how there is no word on who our next sens blogger is, or if there is one, or when we are to expect one. pretty lame.

silversevensens and sixth sens are pretty awesome sites for interesting and informative sens articles, if you are in withdrawl.

in other news:
what are peoples thoughts on re signing meth?
honestly, i dont want to pay him what he's asking. if that is what it takes i say trade or let him walk. preferably trade.

Yost became lame. His articles sucked for the last year. All he wanted to do was analytics. Good riddance. I understand you guys want, and deserve a blogger, but losing that stale, arrogant blogger was the best thing for you guys. Now maybe you'll get a blogger who doesnt copy and paste non stop bar graphs and pie charts.

Methot really wants to stay in Ottawa, I'm pretty sure if it was only up to him and not based on what his agent is telling him, he would've accepted a deal a few weeks ago. Either way, this defensive corps is looking really weak, unless Wiercioch and Cowen have bounce back years, the subtraction of Methot will make it even worse.

im sure he wants to stay in ottawa, but i don't think paying him that $$$ with that much term is good for the long term, esp. since we are a budget team. if the term were shorter i'd be on board, but do we really want to be paying methot (5.5?) for more than 3 years? our d is young, and inexperienced, but one can at least expect some maturity and solid play in 3 years time from the young guys? i expect ceci and weircioch to be top 4 dmen by then (could argue weircioch is on the fringe of that now).

if methot was THE GUY to play with ek, then i might be more ok with it, but i'm not convinced he's the best guy to play with 65.

hypothetically, if it came down to keeping weircioch over meth, would u go methot? i'd prefer to keep weircioch.

hopefully the two sides can meet somehere half-way, but imo, i'd prefer to throw money and term at ryan, not meth, in regards to ufa's we have left to sign. just my humble opinion.

This team baffles me sometimes. Their primary need was help of the D, and they didn't do anything to improve it from last year. I think BM is hoping (hoping dearly) that Cowen and Weircioch turn some heads this coming season. If that doesn't turn out to be a reality, this team won't make the Playoffs (another mediocre year). I don't want to see the Senators waste Karlsson's years like the Penguins did with Malkin and Crosby. They need to help him out and find him a partner. He looked amazing with OEL and Edler at the Olympics.

In terms of whether keeping Methot or Wiercioch, it's tough but Wiercioch has better potential, so I'd pick him. They're both top-4 D's in the NHL; Wier is offensively suited and Meth is defensively suited. It's just a matter of what you're looking for.

BTW, who's watching the Rookie Tournament today? IMO keep an eye on Lindberg, Puempel, Paul, Claessen, and of course Lazar.

It is Penguins-centric (obviously) but I did include a gif of Lazar's goal from yesterday
