Sucks to see you leave... Where you going? I hope somebody replaces you who is more then just an opinionated fan. Somebody who actually brings something to the table more then an opinion but actually stats or reports.

Good luck. In a selfish way I don't want you to go!

Heading into the rookie tournament this weekend, I find it more than depressing that the lede stories in the Sun are about Phillips wanting the C. Neil thinking that Phillips would make a good captain. Neil has opened a new restaurant and Phillips has added an east end location to his restaurant micro brewery.

I think there are lots of hockey stories to consider. Lazar is coming to his first camp where the team has set serious expectations for him. Lots of talk around town that Claesson is the guy who is fast moving up the depth charts and could get a serious look.

Crazy talk about Detroit and Alfresson not getting a number in place due to Cap issues. Some people think it would be a good idea to bring Alfie back for a year and give him a proper send off. I think it would be a step back.

Delay in signing Bobby Ryan. Do you think he might be part of a secret ongoing deal between Ottawa and San Jose?

that would absolutely not be a step back. having alfredsson here does nothing but help the plethora of young swedes, and young players in general, who all look up to him. not to mention that it would be a great PR move for a team that DESPERATELY needs some good PR.

also, unlike plugs like neil and phillips who no longer add any value to a team, alfredsson can still play. pretty sure he was detroit's leading scorer last season....he can obviously still play

I don't think it would be a step back either. If anything, I think it might be a step forward. We don't have to worry about the captaincy for at least one more season, we add a top six forward, certain players get to be on cloud nine again playing with their idol (i.e. Karlsson), and he gets the send off he deserves after this season (assuming he retires).

I don't think the PR boost would be that significant. Sure, it would look nice to see Alfie on advertising again. But how silly does it look on the organization to let him leave for one year to only bring him back because they realize they made a foolish mistake?

I think it's a longshot for him to come back as much as I wish he was still a Senator. But I did sign him as a free agent in NHL 15 last night. Gave him some good coin. Really rounds out my roster nicely!

you know I was thinking the same thing when I heard that he had yet to sign a contract and was coming in unsigned - Babcock didn't seem overly positive....

Can you make a trade for a FA???? Greening for FA Alfredsson

Seems pretty average. Nothing jumps out about him that says "can't miss". Hockey's future, for what it's worth, gives him a 7 rating and probability of NHL success is graded D.

As with most guys who develop in the European leagues, it's hard to judge by statistics, as they don't usually play a lot of games or put up a lot of points with the mens teams until they're in their 20's.

at this point, i have zero expectatios for this kid......if he develops into an NHLer, bonus.

fair enough. they usually aren't THAT FAR off though. if they rank a guy as a D, you can be pretty sure he isn't a can't miss NHL superstar.

so, if alfi retires (which seems likely given his health), should ottawa sign him to a one day contract, and give him the recognition and send off he deserves?

I vote yes

Yes for me too... He should end his career where he began and spent almost the entirety of his career, a la Mike Modano.

My only problem with the grades, is who is giving them out on that site .Mostly they come from fan bloggers ,or someone whom has watched a hockey game .
