Brian Murray has a history of going after high end players that might be available. Do you think Murray is seriously seeking a deal for a top 6 skater. Garrioch says he is chasing a top 9. Another third line player seems crazy to me. The names we have heard this summer are:

Joe Thornton
Patrick Marleau
Patrick Sharp
Evander Kane
Nail Yakupov
Brad Marchand

We have also heard that Greening, Condra and Methot are possible move candidates as well as some prospects. Do you think Murray does a deal before the regular season starts?

I think something happens before puck drop this season, but have a hard time believing Murray would trade away Methot without replacing him at least with someone as competent...

Bad news for Sens fans - Best writer on the site, and definitely the best Sens writer going. Your articles were far more honest and interesting than anything out there (traditional or blogger). Thanks for the years of thought provoking writing. I'm sure this won't be the last we'll hear about you.

I'm not sure how we are going to fill the void here.

If Yakupov is available, especially at a discount, you have to believe Murray is in on him. If that means shipping Methot + First rounder, does Ottawa do it?

How much faith do you have in your goaltending and defense to hold without Methot?

I have very little faith even with Methot. Unless there are some breakout seasons, we're not looking solid. It's just starting to sound like signing Methot is looking more unlikely. If that's the case, we need to move him now before the season.

But your plan involved moving out Ottawas first round pick. Without methot, the D is even worse. I don't want to trade next years first even with him remaining

Not saying that's the best plan, I'm just asking what people think. I suspect that's the minimum Edmonton will want for Yaks. Personally, I'm not convinced Ottawa should do that (because shipping out first round picks is not a great strategy, not because of Methot).

As much as I'd love to see one done, I'm going to say no, he does not do an impact deal. We've seen in recent years that big preseason deals are a rarity....

So, by moving Methot and a first for Yakupov, you are banking on Yak helping boost your place in the standings more than Methot. Which IS possible, but unlikely.

Take it from a Canes fan. you can have one hell of a lot of fire-power, but if your D stinks, you aren't going anywhere.

until it seems likely that ottawa is not going to be picking inside about the top 6-7, i woudn't even trade the 1st straight up for yakupov, let alone include our 2nd best d-man. Yakupov is not worth missing out on potentially drafting near the top of the is draft.....there are probably a few guys in this draft with the potential to be better than yakupov. not worht the risk IMO

I completely agree. Especially with this year's draft, there could be some decent players to be had.

That said, hear me out. Every so often, a good player sucks on a specific team. When Yak was drafted, he was the next coming. He hasn't been developed in an ideal setting, that's for sure. He is (apparently) now being shopped by his team, and could be had at some kind of discount. What is that risk worth to a team like Ottawa?

I know that we need to bolster our defense, but show me an available defenseman that fits price/desire wise? Is there an argument to be made that we could "reclaim" yakupov, the way we did with Turris?

I'm just spitballing because I'm sick of baseball highlights.

i don't disagree that trying to get him would be a good idea. that being said, i think methot and our 1st (potentially a very high pick) is an overpayment, not a discount.

now, if you make the pick conditional (if it's a lottery pick this year, they get the 2016 1st, as well as a 3rd) or something like that..........then i'm down.

Sad to see you go Travis, I've read 99% of your Sens blogs since you sarted posting on HB. I can't honestly remember the guys name who blogged for ottawa before you. Hope to see you around the comments section for years to come.

HB has truely lost one of the top bloggers in it's exsistance. We've been truely spoiled having your amazing insights & advanced stats knowledge as Sens fans. You've always managed to make your posts very interesting, even in the slow times during summer.

Best of luck on your new adventure Travis!

I've heard nothing, but man I'm sure not used to coming to this site to see no Sens news.

I miss Travis already.. I feel like my junior high girlfriend broke up with me or something

The Sens have agreed on a 4 year extension with their AHL affiliate Binghamton Senators. Witch is good news for developing our young players.

& I do believe they have a new ECHL affiliate as well." Something IceMen"

Yes the 6th Sens (I see Daigle people) is my 2nd favorite Sens site right after SSS, now that we dont seem to have a Senators blog on HB anymore.
I'm sure EK will get one soon enough. there will be lots to talk about here shortly as training camp begins.
