The guy who was so "unsure" about selling the team seems pretty sure to me. |

Most billionaires are.
They dont hand out memberships to the BBC to nice guys.
Also sad/funny that our local media knows nothing about what this team is upto and are petrified to ever dig deeper. Good thing Staple et al didnt work for the Wash Post during Nixon administration. |

Can't wait.. He stinks! Enjoy him! - niteislander
I think the basic difference between our D and theirs is that the core of our defense is still quite young, and is going to take their lumps as they learn, but there's a good chance most of them will learn. MacDonald, for a contrasting example, is a slow veteran, and tends to make 2 to 4 bad decisions per shift. He apparently hasn't learned anything except how to get paid for being useless.....and so he'll fit like a glove in that lineup..... a defensive lineup that is only capable of simply "making the playoffs", and not of playing D well enough to win something when you get there. The Flyers' level of "better than us" defensively, right now, is equivalent to the "better than us" our own franchise's defense was in 2005 vs now.....and when we get better than them, we'll stay consistently better.
They are still trying to build a team the same way they did 20 years ago, and you simply cannot. Even the Rag$ have figured that one out. I don't hate them to the point that I disrespect them purposefully, like I do with our neighbors in Manhattan- most of my family are Flyers fans. I 'm just calling it as it is. |

Dan when the Devils moved to Newark, no one complained, why? The Prudential Center was built for hockey...great arena, great site lines, amazing building...the Barclay's has as you noted a scoreboard over the blue line, terrible site lines, and most importantly for a family of 4 costs from LI about $100 to get there. The building wasn't built for hockey, rather b-ball. The building is terrible and the joke of all jokes is that scoreboard...a sophomoric management took the team to a joke of a building. If Wang wasn't such a self center man, manager, owner then possibly the original revised Lighthouse would have received Kate Murray's approval...but it was obvious to all of us, the Wang/Murray battle forced the team to move to this joke of a building. |

Dan...
The reason you don't hear Devils and Caps fans female dog about their moves is because they moved into PALACES that are on easy transportation hubs near their fanbase. The Islanders moved from one dump to another...YES THE BARCLAY'S CENTER IS A DUMP....FOR HOCKEY. Obstructed view seats...in this day and age???? Are you kidding? They moved into a building that was NEVER designed to have hockey...and it shows. There is NOTHING fan friendly about that arena for hockey. Plus, Islanders fans need to increase their commute and go all the way to Brooklyn...a crap hole with a bunch of Hipster Doffus Kramer Wannabes walking around. Additionally, Isles fans fear the link to Barclays will lead to a change in team colors as they did with the Nets. LAUGHABLY, those at Barclays think that Black and White is the colors of Brooklyn which is why they choose it for the Nets and the next Isles 3rd jersey. The truth is, the Dodgers never wore black...they did wear blue. But their management loves black because they believe the AFrican American population will buy anything black, both pandering and insulting AFrican Americans and creating the crappiest jerseys in the NBA. We already endured the fishstick nonsense. We don't need other people who admit they know nothing about hockey messing with our colors or logo. Finally, I completely agree with you about NVMC. It is a dump. Nassau deserves better. But moving from a dump to an arena that isn't good for hockey and is an inconvenience to get to...not enough of an improvement to merit the move. I'll always support the team, but even a 10 year lease would have been an improvement...then it puts pressure on Nassau to get them back. At 25+ year lease...that was a mistake. All Wang was doing was trying to improve his "Donald Sterling asking price." |

As much as I dislike Charles Wang, if they didn't move to Barclay's it would be Quebec. So you can whine and complain about the arena, or you can realize that for twenty years they've needed a new building. There was ample opportunity to get one built, and it was blocked at every attempt. You get to see your team play by going a little further and they may actually put more into the team when it doesn't mean a larger financial loss. Or, you could go back to the days they sold their stars and played ahl players and continue to be a joke. Get a look at the bigger picture here. You're acting like a child that doesn't understand where money comes from.

I was at the Barclays last year for the pre season game and I thought it was very nice. Not sure what everyone who says all these obstructed view seats are terrible, because I dont think there are that many.

Wouldn't it just make sense to look at the seating chart on ticket master and not buy an obstructed view seat? Just as a point of reference for a Canucks home game tickets in the lower bowl are anywhere from 150-300 bucks. When is the last time anyone paid that much for the isles? |

Everything in grey is obstructed, everything in white is where they try to add seats but they are all also obstructed. 1/3 of the space in the arena is no good for viewing an NHL game. None of this can be corrected without a major renovation to the building, which is not in the plans at all. The BC people are fine with the way it is, they dont care how ill fitting the NHL is in their building, they are just seeing 41 nights a year of more revenue.
It sucks.. but like I said before... I would rather the team there, then gone.

People are talking about the fact that the building is bad for hockey... look at that seating chart above. This building reminds me of when the Sharks played in the Cow Palace.

The isles average like 8,000 fans a game (i dont care what they say the attendence is).........when they start selling out game in and game out, then we can discuss the obstructed seating. By that time, im sure they will address/renovate the prob areas.
Until that time comes..........if you're going to attend a game, stay away from those sections. |

im not arguing with you, im just pointing out... the point is that the arena has these areas, these are areas that NHL arenas dont have. 70% of the seats are wonderful to see a game, But if the arena was good for hockey the other 30% would be good too.
also, some people like to sit behind the home goal and actually see the game. You cant do that in this building.

Many will cry obstruction with the arena... And you're 100% correct.. Sell it out and changes will be made. Make the playoff and watch how fast those obstruction seat will be filled. And those same fans will be crying that they couldn't get a tix will be watching them at home from un-obstruction seat in front of their TVs |
