Andrei Loktionov

The funny thing about Loktionov is that when I think of him I think of the first LA Kings Cup celebration on the ice just three years ago...and yet in that time the 24-year-old has played in NJ and Carolina. So much promise in this kid who hurt his shoulder player in the worlds in June only to find out he wouldn't be qualified by the Canes. This much skill though should have found a home by now. San Jose is a possible landing spot as is Pittsburgh. I have heard an "outside chance" that he gets an invite to Colorado or Tampa.

On Ville Leino...

So far I have heard San Jose and Philly regarding Leino.. However I was told last night the Penguins may be calling Ville in. As rough as the last few seasons have been for Leino it is important to remember how good he once was while playing with the Flyers. Claude Giroux lost a line-mate when Hartnell was traded. Leino also has shown himself to be a stellar playoff performer.

An actually enigmatic Russian and the biggest free agent flop prior to Clarkson. Unless they both check their heads and egos they do not interest me at all.

I'm not against adding any forwards for league minimum, 2-way contracts.

Yeah, most likely someone called it in as a prank and TSN or whoever didn't check the source or PD to verify and ran the story.

I was scouring through websites looking for something to drown out BS news reports and happened upon some line combos that a I really like the looks of.

Horqvist-Crosby-Kunitz
Downie-Malkin-Dupuis
Bennett-Sutter-Spaling
Megna-Goc-Comeau

Those look like a nice mix of grit/speed/skill/character/stats producers. So much win![/img]

Another note in regards to advanced metrics in sports...

I was reading an article on ESPN breaking down some NFL stuff. The author used some advanced metrics. He then had to write an additional paragraph explaining all of the situations in which the stat doesn't apply or is otherwise meaningless.

Note to all of the stat geeks...

If you use a statistic to make a point and you find yourself then following that up with a bunch of content in your article/post that outline the myriad of situations in which the stat either doesn't make any sense, doesn't apply, yields false results, is erroneous, or flat out meaningless, you probably shouldn't be using the stat to make your case in the first place.

This is a growing trend in online content from the pro-stat camp.

Good mix...but even though I like giving Sid the two best wingers, I just don't think Kunitz and Hornqvist on the same line makes sense. I have a feeling that realistically, it will end up more like this:

Kunitz-Sid-Bennett
Dupuis-Malkin-Hornqvist
Spaling-Sutter-Downie
Megna-Goc-Comeau

My favorite line combination:

Bennett-Sid-Hornqvist
Kunitz-Malkin-Sutter
Downie-Goc-Dupuis
Comeau-Spaling-Megna/Payerl/Uher

Id be interested to see how QMI got it so wrong. I'm sure Crosby's lawyer will be paying them a visit.

NH, i think your passion for poaching Oilers is well documented. If only your prognostications would prove true... At least you didn't offer Dupuis as a kicker

In today's need to be the "first" with journalism sources are often never questioned prior to breaking a story. Sports is no different. Journalism as a profession has gone out the window. Anyone with a blog is now in the industry.

As far as the Oilers and Yak go, as much as I see no need for Sutter on this roster anymore, I cant imagine Sutter for Yak. Oilers would demand a much higher return.

I find it interesting when trades come full circle. Like we essentially traded Goligoski for Hornqvist and Spaling....

So just for entertainment purposes I'd like to see Sutter and Dumoulin for Yaks. Then we essentially traded Staal for the 1st and 8th pick in the same draft ( Yaks and D. Pouliot.)

It would be Yak for Sutter, plus at top defensive prospect I would think. If I'm Edmonton, I'd want Scott Harrington.

It is pretty interesting. I think Kaberle ended up going for 2 1st, and a 2nd? Never heard of him after he left TOR, not that he was ever that good anyway.

I've watched Yak a few times and I think he has talent, he just seemed completely uninterested playing. Similar to a notorious Kovalev slump. I've never been a big fan of Russian players, but if Yak is in a limited role as a winger, it might work here. EDM would want way too much though.

Would anyone here give up Pouliot to acquire Yakupov?

I'd only do it If it were Pouliot/Scuderi for Yakupov.

I'd do Pouliot straight up for Yakupov in a heartbeat. Pouliot could be amazing, but he is luxury when we have Letang for 8 more years and Ehrhoff likely to sign for probably 5. Yakupov IMO is exactly the type of top end winger Sid need, high end speed, high end shot.

Agreed. I'm really high on Pouliot and mediocre on Yaks but still think the positional needs make itnok in my book. we would find out very quickly how good Yaks is. Anyone with that kind of god given talent with a center man like Sid or gGeno is bound for success.
