hearing weircioch and cowen talk about their off season and this upcoming season are so different. Weircioch sounds like a mature and confident guy that gives up the sense he's about to have his best season; Cowen sounds like he woke up from a long 2 year nap and doesn't remember which planet he lives on

Spezza -26.

Even when Spezza and Hemsky supposedly played so brilliantly coming down the stretch they were still a minus on even strength goal differential. Dallas does not have a strong D to start off with. My guess is Dallas gives up a ton of goals, plays poorly in their own end and badly misses the playoffs.

Why would Melnyk and Greenberg take the time to formally deny a rumor printed in an obscure (not very credible) local magazine that usually has a primary focus on political dialogue? Suggests the source of the rumor may come from the political rather than business or sports community. Perhaps there really is some actual fire with this smoke.

“The suggestion that Mr. Melnyk has brought in a minority ownership partner is 100 per cent false,” said Melnyk spokesman Ken Villazor. “There are absolutely no discussions taking place related to a change in ownership structure of the Senators.”

This statement is even more vague than the statement by Dan Greenberg. “Neither Ferguslea Properties Limited nor Dan Greenberg nor any affiliated entities have any ownership or financial interest in the Ottawa Senators, regardless, we continue to strongly support the ownership, management, players and members of the Ottawa Senators organization.”

It says nothing about Capital Sports and Entertainment Holdings, the company that owns the Senators, property, ticket business and management subsidiaries. Greenberg says nothing about Ottawa Sports and Entertainment.

If Greenberg and Melnyk are headed towards a joint venture the deal would be done by the two holding companies and not at their personal or team level. I don't think we get any details until the casino is resolved.

Pure guess on my part but it will be part of a massive redevelopment project that includes a new downtown arena, office buildings, condos, shops, restaurants and casino. All would be integrated into the hub of the new rapid transit system.

They are currently working on too many upgrades on the existing building. I live in the West and and am totally on board moving the arena downtown. But it is what it is now. These partnership rumours are just like trades. The rumours start because someone involved heard something somewhere. But just like so many trade rumours, nothing may come of it.

The building upgrades confused me as well.

But a huge redevelopment project would likely require a 7 to 10 year time horizon. Combined with the construction of rapid transit system and the incredibly successful completion of the redevelopment of Landsdowne Park this would be a sure fire winner.

There are great land sites on Rideau St., around the market and between the new convention center and U of O. If they are not planning this right now, they should be!

Thirty years for the Corel Center will be long enough.
