It might take a while to get their report.

The blood tests for things like protein C and S deficiency, the anti-phospholipid syndrome that Bill mentioned in an earlier blog, usually are only done at special labs. For the majority of hospitals these are called "send out" tests and can take a week or two to get the results.

The other thing I heard when I asked a friend of mine who specializes in these things is that some of the doctors prefer to wait until the acute episode of blood clot (leg vein thrombus or pulmonary embolus/clot) is treated and stabilized for a number of months before checking for the disorders like protein C deficiency. Some docs think that the acute episode of clot interferes with the test results for the clotting disorder and can lead to false results.

Sorry if that is confusing. It is a complicated area of medicine.

You explained it well. I figured it'd be little more than a minor update, not a definite timetable

I think he needs another year in jrs and a season in ahl playing with guys closer to his size. But I'm all for a 9 games in the NHL
- 28Girouxsalem28

I look at a guy like Luke Schenn who has had too many inconsistencies in his career but I'd say it's a result of how he was developed. Luke for Schenn he's still a decent player but he was drafted and played in the NHL right away. I don't want this for Morin even though he's a year removed from the draft but you should catch my drift. I'm okay with the nine game look but nothing more.

Yeah, that's probably how it will shake out. Grossmann and AMac could get switched, but otherwise, not sure the puzzle could come together in many more ways (that make any sense).

Luckily, if somebody gets hurt, Schultz can play either side.

I'd rather see MDZ or Streit with Coburn, and Grossmann on a third pair. Or replaced by Alt

I'm excited about morin but he isn't ready. He needs ahl time IMO. He is bigger then everyone in jrs and that can give him a false hope in a sense.

MDZ/Streit out there against Crosby, Tavares, OV and Stamkos?

I think if he sticks with G all season and gets 1st pp time 60 is reasonable.
- 28Girouxsalem28

I dunno about that... Hartsy mostly got both of those things the past 2-years and didn't come anywhere close to 60.

60+ points is pretty darned rare these days... only 1-2 players per team on avg.

After talking with the hematologist, this news actually gives me some hope for Kimmo.

It sounds like he had a lot of blood clots from the reports, in his legs and both lungs. So it makes sense that his Protein C levels would be down a lot with all the clots. So maybe he doesn't really have the Protein C deficiency that requires life long treatment. Maybe he just got the clots from a very long plane trip.

I don't like. Your taking away players from two lines that are stong to give Vinny better wings.

Schenn - Giroux - Voracek
Read - Couturier - Umberger
Raffl/Akeson - Vinny - Simmonds
Bellemore - White/Raffl - Jones/Alderson/Rinaldo/Akeson

Coburn - Schenn
Amac - Streit
Grossmann - Del Zotto

- J35Bacher

Raffl/Akeson, and Simmonds aren't playmakers. Vinny's issue is that he does not have a playmaker on his wing. Schenn wasn't one either.

Coburn and Luke Schenn?

Hoping Luke can be more consistent and play like he did at the end of last season and not like he did at the beginning.

And B Schenn is Pavel Bure?

Not saying he won't, or he's not capable... just want to reign expectations in a bit for both him and Coots. 40-50 points is actually damned good production these days.

There would be Krajicek/Parent flashbacks with that pairing.

I'm quite concerned with the current cast of defenseman, we are going to see a chinese fire drill in the defensive zone on a nightly basis.

I understand that. But I don't want to move read and vorcek to try and jump start vinny at the risk of losing the effectiveness they bring on the lines they already play with.

Also as Berube said in a recent interview he talked to Vinny and he might have to change his game a little. Maybe playing with simmonds and raffl or whoever he has to grind out shifts more. Raffl had decent skills to make plays and Simmonds can work the greasy areas.

I can hope.
I think if he gets that top line spot he should be shooting everything jake and g give him. Playing with two playmakers who control the puck so well he should bury 30 goals.

I actually like the pair. It allows Schenn to be the physicall player he is and allow Coburn to use his skills more. Let him move with the play and get involved a little more.

I would be fine starting the season as thos two as the top pairing. I think Amac and Striet together would work and Grossmann and Del Zotto would be a competant third pair.

MDZ needs to play to his skill set. He needs offensive starts and pp time. If he can regain his confidence and put 35 points up then we may have made the best signing all offseason. It's a big if but he is still young and not far removed form his breakout year.

Hexy was hinting that Read might be in the 1LW mix. G-Jake seem set in stone. Maybe...

L1: Umberger (or Read)/G/Jake
L2: Schenn/Coots/Read (or Umberger)
L3: Akeson/Vinny/Simmonds

Coots and Schenn had strong chemistry w/ the Phantoms, and L3 seems to have all the prerequisites for a sheltered scoring unit.

How does putting MDZ together with Coburn, who undoubtedly is going to be used to match up against top lines, makes sense? Del Zotto is a puck moving offensive defenseman with a suspect defensive game. You must really have a bias against Gorssmann to suggest that, and the same goes for replacing him with Alt. Who none of us even know if he's ready for the NHL, let alone able to replace Grossmann.

Grossmann and Coburn are already a proven shutdown pair. Coburn has looked solid next to Timonen, Hatcher or Grossmann because they know their role and do their part. Coburn next Bruno Gervais was a disasters. Michael Del Zotto to me is a third pair tryout guy. He has the deal but his recent play doesn't guarantee him much. I have Del Zotto and Schenn chocked on the third pair so their minutes can be managed properly against certain match ups. I have a little more faith in Coburn, Grossmann, MacDonald and Streit against tougher match ups.

Not nearly as long as failed NA players.
