Oh god Coates on the radio?

I really enjoyed listening to Therien and Saunders on the radio. Sometimes, if J.J. irritated me enough on TV, I would just put the radio on and listen in.

I guess I won't be doing that this year.

It guess it depends on whether or not you believe his struggles only started this year w/ those injuries, or not.

Watching him over the past several seasons, I personally feel like his days of being able to beat guys like Marc Staal and Seidenberg consistently H2H are long over. Forget the likes of McDonagh and Chara.

I haven't seen any interviews where Hextall, Holmgren or Berube mentioned the injuries to Lecavalier as a primary cause of his struggles. Even Snider, when he mentioned the injury, was quick to note that Lecavalier never found his groove afterward and said finding him a role was up to the "Hockey Guys", and then said if Vinny was injured he wouldn't have played.

When the injuries get talked about, it's usually been downplayed as a cause of Lecavalier's struggles by Hextall & Berube

Hopefully the main issue was injury and he plays better this year, because it means the Flyers have a better player or trade asset

time flies doesn't it. now part of the school beast.

my daugther is in a Russian immersion program, where they spend 1/2 the day learning various subjects in English and 1/2 the day learning various subjects solely in Russian. She/we doesn't know Russian from Martian.

It was quite the morning...

but hopefully by November, I'll have my own KHL interpreter.

Do we think he was ever instructed to change the way he plays while in Tampa?

.…I'm not going to bet money that VL40 is going to have some kind of renaissance resurgence or something. But I also think this may be a unique situation in his career, where he's clearly been challenged to be more of a complete player and to change his game accordingly. With that precedence set, I'll give the guy at least a quarter of the season to show me something.

Edit: And I'll say, if he sucks at that point, I'll be right there with you guys about the player. I think some of the differences of opinion on Vinny is simply how quickly we're ready to just be up and done with him. I think I need to see the failure continue into a 2nd season before I reach that point, others don't need any more evidence.

I think putting simmer on the third line with read and coots will be more counter productive then Having simmer and VL together. Who ever is on that line will just be riding shotgun and be asked to be defensively sound and be able to carry the puck out if the zone. That's why I think a rotation of Raffl/umberger/Akeson works well.

As people have suggested, I think the best thing to do is put read on the VL and simmer line. That will will be legit 2 scoring line. I think the combination of raffl and umberger will balance out reads absence on Couts line and make a really defensively sound 3rd line.

Berube loves the Couturier-Read tandem almost as much as he loves Giroux-Voracek.

It's a bittersweet time. I really miss them the first weeks of school. I'm off Mondays so we always have stuff going on and it's usually the best day of the week.

Bergen was a special case, though. He wanted to pursue a professional golfing career, despised playing for Keenan and forced a trade. Then he had an abdominal tear when he was finally traded and retired.

Regardless of the reason why, there is a lot of players in NHL history who were flashes in the pan, and never made it long term. For a variety of reasons.

We have seen glimpses of what the kid can do.... I think we should let training camp play out, let the preseason play out, and then decide. If Vinny still struggles, the 4th line C spot and top unit PP time might be the best scenario. If he is healthy and plays like he did over the first 12 games of the year.. then we go by that..

- jak521

Agree with having to let it play out.

However, to say that Akeson is completely unproven at the NHL level miggghtt be inaccurate. He has played in 9 NHL games and has not looked at of place a bit. 5 points in 9 NHL games isnt shabby. I think he deserves a shot.

- jak521

I think he deserves a chance also. But 9 games doesn't prove anything in my book.

The season before he came to the Flyers, he scored at a 67 point pace of his numbers were prorated over an 82 game season.

I was talking about player reputation/standing... I didn't say anything about disregarding recent trends.
- Tomahawk

Well what is a players reputation based on? Is Lecavalier's reputation as a player not based on his past production? One and the same!

Akeson doesn't have any reputation or standing in the NHL.

No, Shayne Gostisbehere is completely unproven as an NHL player because he has never played in an NHL game in the preseason, the regular season or the playoffs.

Please learn the meanings of common English words like completely so you don't use them incorrectly and embarrass yourself again the future.

- Feanor

I think the only embarrasing thing happening here is you arguing the meaning of the word completely. Akeson is not in any way a proven player at the NHL level. Therefore he is completely unproven as an NHL player.
