I would assume Teravainen will start in Rockford, but even with that there would be too many forwards when Martin is added:
Sharp-Toews-Hossa
Saad-Richards-Kane
Bickell-Shaw-Versteeg
Morin-Kruger-Smith
Regin
Plus, we'd have to sign another defenseman to give us 7, then there wouldn't be enough cap space to accomodate Martin. I'm all for getting Martin, I agree that he's the type of forward we need. But there would have to be more to the deal. I noticed that Martin also spent some time on the PK last season, 0:41/game, that's a bonus. |

First off - this is my first post (long time reader)
In regards to the Matt Martin for Nick Leddy trade suggestion - here is my issue with a straight across trade.
Martin was a 5th Round pick in the '08 Draft. He is 25 now and has played in 280 games and has only scored 55 points in his career.
Leddy was a 1st Round pick in the '09 Draft, is 23, played in 258 games and has scored 93 points.
Leddy has more skill than Martin, is younger, plays a more important position, and has 38 more points in less games as a defenseman.
Yes Martin is a more of a hitter than a scorer which the Hawks need, and Leddy is a free agent at the end of the year, but in my opinion that is not near enough for me.
I would say Martin and a 3rd for Leddy would be closer to a fair trade. If the deal was with the Islanders, I would want Brock Nelson, (younger and the same size as Martin) but I doubt they would go for that. He is only a year younger then Leddy with a lot less experience. |

Kevin Hayes is a clown. Listen to these quotes:
"Just coming to NY will be a great opportunity for me and my family. Seeing how successful they've been the last couple of years was really a reason why I ultimately chose the Rangers."
"I really like the way AV plays. He likes to score goals and be responsible defensively as well. I think thats a style I like to play" |

EDIT: Leddy for Martin and a pick has been the discussion. People are just posting Martin for Leddy in conversation but a pick I think is assumed.
ps: HB is acting up today. |

Welcome!
I don't know if anyone thinks it should be Leddy for Martin straight up, but they would be the principles of the deal. It's hard to make a direct comparison with these two players, they are as different as 2 guys can be. The Hawks would be addressing a specific need - toughness, and the cost would be the potential of a young puck moving defenseman. I agree that a pick would be added to the deal, I'd like to get their 2nd (originally from Philly). |

Oh...Hayes wanted to play for a successful team, no wonder he didn't want to play for the Blackhawks.

Ok good - I kept seeing Leddy for Martin and that was it and that didn't make sense to me. I know everyone on here gets on Leddy's case and Q puts him on the bench during important playoff hockey, but 23 year old defenseman that already has 3+ years under his belt is pretty valuable in my eyes. And yes, a 2nd rounder would be even better! |

Welcome and agreed.
The only thing that may hold the pick back is SB is trading from weakness due to the cap. Again though, at least for now this is nothing like post 2010. |

Watch the tape from Belarus.... Hayes looked average at best.
Still a low risk move for the Rangers. If Hayes ends up in the AHL it is only money.
I'll take the 2nd rounder in a strong draft. Could help the Hawks move up or just end up a better player. |

Good thing Quenneville doesn't like to score goals AND demand defensively responsibility as well
Bottom line is Bowman told him he was going to Rockford and he stamped his feet until another team basically told him he was going to be in the running for a roster spot right away
But good for Bowman to not create a mess in the minors for a player that thinks hes entitled to more. And we certainly wouldnt want SB caving into him and forcing him down Quenneville's throat. |

It would have been nice to have another prospect that's further along in his development in the pipeline, but it's not the end of the world. Hayes is probably a 2nd round talent and we're getting a 2nd round pick in return.
As much as I don't like how Hayes handled the situation, we can't really complain too much. We lost a college prospect for a 2nd round pick, but over the past couple of years we've signed some collect prospects for nothing - Leblanc, Carey, TVR. Overall I think it's worked out better for us. |

Howdy spudrock. Your right Leddy should bring alot more than Martin but I'd like a shot early in the 2015 first round. Alot of good center prospects. Maybe a Leddy package could include one of those.

Another 1st round pick on 2015 would be sweet....4 picks in the first 2 rounds would be incredible assets. |

I know Frolik is a better hockey player , but we need a player like Matt Martin . If Leddy is only going to play 6 minutes , Id rather have a forward like Martin that hits everything in sight . All of Bolligs fights were lame and staged . Martin drops the gloves quickly and at appropiate times . Its fantastic . 300+ hits a year .
Someone has to go .. D is a strength of the Hawks , Leddy has the best combo of Value/Annoyability ! Move him for a very useful bottom 6 forward. - mrpaulish

Is Hayes the new Fabian Brunnstrom minus the hat trick first game?
Like you say, it's the Rangers and it's just money. |

So far Hayes is nothing. Let me know when he has played a game and can be anyalized. Sick of hearing about this kid. |

AV doesn't really tolerate big, slow and stupid for very long.
More likely to find Kevin playing on the Rockefeller Center skating rink or at an AHL arena nearby. |

Or like I said on Ek's thread, getting off an Embraer TurboProp in some AHL burg within the next 24 months, never to be heard from again. The guy might end up nothing more than Jimmy Hayes Lite. Yes, that Jimmy Hayes. |

If next years draft is as deep as some are saying the Hawks might be better off with the 2nd round pick. |
