I thought the Miller signing was okay, I can't see the fan base too happy about tanking, but I know there's a bunch of Canucks fans who think the whole thing should have been blown up. Lack can split starts with Miller until they're sure he can handle the workload. - Isles_since_6
They're not paying Miller 6m to split the workload until Lack is ready. He'll get 55+ starts. |

Mr. Tanner,
I appreciate the reasons why you believe the CBJ not signing Johansen is wrong, but this is the same process that the team went through with Bob last season. By the time it was January the supposedly acrimonious contract negotiations were all but forgotten, and Bob had a great year for the Jackets.
I believe this contract situation is a repeat of what happened last year. According to the Columbus Dispatch, GM Jarmo Kekalainen will be back in town this week, and the deal will get done IMO. This is no problem until training camp opens and Johansen is not in Columbus.
Also IMO, if he has a better season then last year, I would guess the CBJ will rip up the current contract and pay him the big $$$$$ he will have earned when the CBJ will have lots of cap room for it.

You're awfully sensitive about that contract aren't you? - Isles_since_6
You brought it up as a defense mechanism. You guys needed to overpay for 2 reasons...
1) You're a joke of a franchise, who players flee from.
2) Your idiot GM had to do everything in his power to try and stay out of the lottery.
Those contracts weren't some brilliant strategic maneuver by Snow...they were simply an act of desperation. |

I think the Orpik deal is the worst, with the Pouliot deal in a close second. |

You're probably right, but in Bob's case did he say their contract offers were insults? There's a pretty good chance this lingers even after the deal is signed. I think your GM is doing the right thing 100%...but it may not matter, this kid thinks he's above the CBA. |

Can you think of another reason why you were sellers at the deadline last year, then inexplicably became overpayers in the summer?

Isles made some good moves and kulimen isnt a terrible deal. a team on the upswing and that is probably what is grinding your gears... they are on the upswing and Toronto is on the same treadmill its been on for decades. |

Kulemin is a terrible deal. The Isles are not on the upswing. They don't grind my gears...I barely notice them. I just get a kick out of their dummy fans defending the moves Snow made this summer. As if they were anything but a desperate attempt to stay out of the lottery.
They have no defense, they have mediocre goaltending and their management is stupid. No one wants to play there unless they get 75% more money. |

not a terrible deal. an overpayment, but far from terrible. goaltending dramatically improved, number 1 and 2. great pipeline. staying out of the lottery should be every teams goal. isles suprisingly have developed a culture that keeps players in long island. vets that initially refused to go there found it to their likiing. tavares is a top 10 player in the league. |

It's a HUGE overpayment...that's why it's terrible. From the outside it looks like they're giving up on players at about the same rate they're drafting them. They have a slew of top 5 picks in the recent history...they better have something in the pipeline. Unfortunately, that and the great Tavares haven't translated into any form of success at all. |

it takes patience. reinhart / lee / etc will be in the line up this year. compared to some players this year kulimin was only a little overpayed. isles have as much playoff success as toronto in recent years. |

It's the term that's so awful. The 4m is terrible, but they can afford it for sure. But 4 years? If their pipeline is so full why give that plug 4 years.
Isles fans are gonna hate him...I guarantee it. |

this!
perfectly said.
"komarov is superior in nearly every way to kulemin"???
u must be joking.
one of the top 3 dumbest comments made this summer by anyone who's supposed to understand the game of hockey.
 - hugefemale dog77
Kulemin is a very bad hockey player. Anyone who watches him will see this very quickly. He has a heavy shot, which he uses a little over once per game. He has a big strong body, but he's a wussy who backs away from any confrontation.
If anyone is interested I'd wager Komarov beats Kulemin in every important stat this year. |

Can we put that guy who said Leaf players are lucky to play in Carlyle's defensive system #1? |

We traded Vanek when it was Lear he wasn't going to sign, the huge contract they offered him was proof they were willing to spend.
Glass houses and all that, your tank job was spectacular. |

How much Elmer's did u sniff this morning ? No way canucks will be even close to being the worst team . Canucks will finish 6 th and lose in the first round . Getting rid of kesler and booth and adding vrbata and bonino makes them instantly better - Cletuswest
so what 3 teams do the nucks beat out that made the playoffs last year?

We have plenty of cap space, the deal doesn't hurt us in the slightest. I'd take our forwards and goaltending over the Leafs, our defense isn't good but we have 5-6 players who may turn this into a strength as early as later this year. We're a bubble team that's a legit top 4 defenseman away from being a playoff team. Cup contender? Nope, but our greatest weakness last year was goaltending and that's a strength this year.

You're right...Vanek couldn't leave soon enough. They offered him a huge contract because he cost you so damn much. The Vanek/Moulson situation should have cost Snow his job, lucky your owner thinks the point of the season is to draft as high as possible. No wonder he loves Snow.
Our tank job was so spectacular...so long and painful...that we only managed to finish 5 points ahead of the Isles. Embarrassing. |

Long shot but not inconceivable that they finish ahead of Dallas and Anaheim if everything goes right for them, and everything goes wrong for the Stars and Ducks. If anything, goaltending and a return to form for the Sedins will make the difference. |
