hopefully joesfson and larsson will join him next summer, so the devils can close the book on this bad era of overhyped swedish players? - devfan30
Hagelin and Fast in the 5th, that's where you get'em |

I had high hopes for him. I feel like our drafting choices have been weak for far too long. We could have probably worked this guy into our system in a much better fashion, but instead, we crap the pot and let another player walk to europe. When a guy like Kovi makes that initiative, it's no surprise that others in the system get the drift of the organizational constitution. |

Poll devils fans, if push cmae to shove which young d-man would trade? ( I already know your answer Devfan30.) If all of them make it to the NHL you'd have a pretty crowded blueline.
Greene, Larsson, Merrill, Gelinas, Severson, Santani all look to be good player. But what happens if a guy like Jacobs or Scralett suddenly step up? - tomburton99
tough question - if Gelinas becomes sound defensively he could end up being the most valuable, at least of the current 3 in the NHL now.
Even though he's only 21 (22 when season starts) this really is a huge year for Larsson, needs to show consistency and for the first time since his rookie year he will finally be able to have the chance to for a full season |

Honestly I'd probably say Merrill. If Gelinas can get his D play down a bit better he'll be a real stud whereas I don't really see Merrill blossoming into that top pairing guy like some of the other guys have |

Merrill, Severson, Gelinas, Henrique, Santini, we're more of a round 2-3 organization. |

How can you have any doubts after Edmonton worked this strategy to perfection?
No but seriously, I like what Buffalo's done this summer. I like that they were able to bring in Gio and Moulson who actually chose to come here despite the tank nation because they like Buffalo.
I think that's something Edmonton lacked. They didn't really have motivated vets who made the team competitive during the rebuild. It was like they were so comfortable with losing every night that the losing culture stuck with them when it came time to win. |

Merrill could blossom into a Seabrook type player. He was good offensively as a prospect, but has focused mostly on D in the NHL, and in just his ROOKIE year he's done a terrific job. My optimism stems from just how well he developed during the year (funny how that happens when you let a kid play without fear of being benched). He went from rookie in camp, to one of the D I became comfortable with being out there. I can't say the same about Gelinas, who would get beat often. IF Gelinas gets he D this is a tough choice. But Merrill has the D, and is capable of more offense, both of which should only improve.. so I tend to side with keeping Merrill for that reason.
Either way, I don't see why we need to move one. With Salvador gone, and Zidlicky re-signed.. or Martin brought back, we have a solid defense.
Greene-Merrill
Severson-Martin
Gelinas-Larsson
or whatever.
Santini, Scarlet, etc are still at least 1-3 years after Severson. If we come down to a logjam, if anything it will mean that these kids will have already established themselves as good NHL defensemen- making them more valuable in a trade. So if anything, we want to hold onto these guys right now.. especially since there's no one really ready to push one of them out (except maybe Severson). |

Exactly. I'm glad I'm not the only one boiling over the fact we let Strome, Dougie, or Zibadjan and frankly quite a few more slip through. Acquire a serviceable play is nothing to sneeze at; but taking a serviceable player when others with higher ceilings and already proven their ability 3X more than AL - that's a shame.
