In that case ... Take franzen! The trade would pretty much be a wash

We need a defenseman, which leads me to believe that Detroit probably is a prime trading-partner. And, no, we don't want Quincey.

Forget working with the org as a defensive coach; if he said he wanted to play again I'd sign him to a two-year contract TONIGHT.

Seriously though, after Bill Peters left in June to become head coach of the Hurricanes, Babcock offered the vacant assistant coaching position to Lidstrom, but he declined. He's living in Sweden, helping coach one of his son's teams, and getting his feet wet in hockey operations as an adjunct to the Vasteras IK (second-tier Swedish team in Lidstrom's hometown) board of directors.

Is that Shannon Hogan any good on the pre and post games. Looks like she is working the Isles telecasts this upcoming season

So. Hayes. I know very unlikely he lands here, but if he did where is he going to fit? That would for sure put a nail in the Alfie coffin right?

No I think it would put a nail in Callahan, Ferraro and maybe Andersson (if it hasn't already). It would also assure that Jurco is in the AHL more than the NHL this season unless the Wings get hit with lots of long term injuries.

I really don't see him landing here anyway. I hope DD gets signed soon tho. That worries me

Danny will be a Red Wing by training camp. Holland is probably holding off final talks until he's set with the UFAs (Alfie or other free agents)

Does anyone else seriously see Alfie still signing here? I just think he wants a cup. We could make the playoffs but unless we make a SERIOUS trade were not equipped on D to make a deep run or win the cup.

He already stated that it's the Wings or retire so if he plays it will be in Detroit. When he left Ottawa he picked Detroit and I think he will stick to that. I don't think he wants to move his family again or be apart from them for a season just to chase a cup somewhere else which he might not get anyways.

I would like to see Alfie sign for a 1.5 million contract if he does come back. Maybe 1 to 2 in bonuses. I'd personally be ok with him retiring. Would like cap room for the TDL if we are looking like we could contend.

If Cleary got 1.5 mil plus 1 mil bonus for 10 games for his 8 points last season I think Alfie deserves a bit more. Holland set the market way too high for his own players by giving raises to people that didn't earn them (Cleary, Quincey and Gus). Kind of hard to ask better players to take less than them now.

While I would normally agree, Alfredsson has no negotiating power. 1.5m plus 2m in bonuses seems fair to me although I would still prefer to see Tatar, Jurco, and potentially Mantha getting the ice time Alfredsson would take up.

Alfie does have some negotiation power since he was one of the top in points on the team last season. Jurco and Mantha are both starting in the AHL (unless the team gets hit with injuries during camp and pre-season) and Alfie signing or not won't change that. He also won't be taking ice time away from Tatar since he likely will be playing with him on the 3rd line.

What I would have liked to see was Cleary, Quincey and Gus not re-signed and let the kids fight for spots. Waive Lashoff and Glendening and open up more spots for the young players to fight for...at that point re-signing Alfie would not have been much of a problem in terms of roster spot or cap space. More of the kids would be getting a chance to show what they can do and the Wings would have plenty of cap space for trades.

These last few articles have been great. Nice to see someone putting up some thoughtful content over the summer rather than beating the same horse.

Thanks,
