Like I said, AMac has just been a good complimentary piece for us. Maybe the same player but just fits the mix better. He still has some obvious holes in his game, but when you compare his deal to some other guys, it's not all that outrageous (money, not term). - jmatchett383
Have you seen his Corsi% for the Flyers. Coburn with Amac posted a 38%! That is flippin horrendous. |

this is a good read, might help you understand what you're seeing. Or not seeing.

Amac helped stabilize the defense last year. If people would stop pointing to stupid corsi crap and actually watch the games they would see that. |

The interesting thing is that those small sample sizes would be more than 20 games. If this site allows you to search, go look in dans blog comments over the last year from isles fans regarding what we thought of amac. - Isles_since_6
I seriously doubt that the sample size of players who normally are on the ice with MacDonald, are more then 20 games when not playing with MacDonald. And if comparing players who aren't normally on the ice with MacDonald, then those players are in completely different situations. And also when comparing players on other teams that play in similar deployments and levels of competition, the author ignored factors such as the team structure and support. It's why Jake Muzzin can play on the top pair in LA, with Drew Doughty, and the tremendous team game and support that they play with.
What the fans thought are irrelevant. |

MacDonald did not suck on the Islanders. He had nobody to play with and was expected to be the 1st pair guy! That is not him. Period. He was highly coveted throughout the league once he was made available. He has parts of his game that are good. To say he blocks shots just because he backs up too much is just a ridiculous statement. The guy can skate, pass, he has composure with the puck. HE LED THE LEAGUE IN BLOCKED SHOTS, he is a pretty good penalty killer. Things he is not... a crease clearer, physical presence, Off D-man. Once the Flyers acquired him our defense became instantly better. We got the puck up the ice with more ease and the penalty kill was improved. He is a lot like Matt Carle in some ways. They have similar contracts BTW. |

The 5 or so pucks that MacDonald turned over south of his own goal line every game had nothing to do with his supporting cast. I highly doubt everybody will be singing the same tune 40 or so games into the season. |

How about the Islanders as a whole suck on defense. Not just one player. Everyone has a player they want to blame it on. For me its Coburn and Carle. I personally dont like them. Other Flyers fans like them . I think Luke Schenn was very solid for the Flyers this season. Maple Leafs fans will always think he sucks. Truth is Maple Leafs STILL suck at defense. |

Your delusional if you think losing one player makes your team better. It can slightly but it does not make a team with a losing record into one with a winning record. Teams often play well after the Trade Deadline because they are out of it or their backs are against the wall. There is no pressure to win after you are mathematically eliminated and much like Being down 3-0 in a playoff series, you have nothing to lose at that point.
You also lost vanek as well, you gonna sit there and tell everyone that trading vanek made your team better too? |

Hell no, I wanted Vanek back and that was a huge loss. |

2? Actually, zero so far. - jmatchett383
The way I see it 3 of our top 4 Defensemen a few years ago were Pronger, Timonen and Meszaros. All 3 of them are no longer on the roster due to injuries/health issues.
Thank God Coburn's Nose is Indestructible. |
