but really, the Flyers are a bubble team. If they stay healthy (dear god they need to stay healthy), then they have as good a shot as anyone in that slop
as for the Pens, they're gonna be there. They'd have to lose both big forwards to be in danger of slipping. |

Yeah we have no problems saying when a player actually plays well. Seems to be some confusion with AMAC and Flyers fans in reference to whether he was good or not when he was with us. He clearly sucked. - Cptmjl
AMac got paid well, but the term was too long. A 3 or 4 year deal would have been much better. He played well for us his first handful of games, then became more or less a non-factor.
I was talking more about Streit. Admit it, I remember you telling us how terrible he was. He actually played well last year after a month or so of adjustment. |

I think the Flyers need to stay healthy, get big-time contributions for Schenn, Couturier, and Lecavalier, and to have Mason steal some games like he did last year for them to make it in. |

If there was more to the division, i'd agree. I just don't think there is. I think aside from two teams, the metro is a complete toss up. |

so if those are the 3 things they need, giroux can score 0 goals and they'll make the playoffs. |

If team #2 is the Rangers, I think they make it, but not necessarily as a #2. Their defense and bottom-6 took a hit. I think Columbus has the inside track on that #2 spot, to be honest. |

No, they definitely have.
They started getting worse near the end of last season, then they started trading 3rd liners for 4th liners. - BINGO!
17-13 their last 30 games, which is more or less how the pace they played at all season.
By third liners for 4th liners I assume you mean Steve Downie for Talbot? Downie was on an excellent line with Read and Couturier for awhile until he was concussed. Never recovered. Much more than just a "4th liner" on any team.
Good try though. |

After starting the season 1-7, not sure how they got worse. And the Downie/Talbot trade was in December, not towards the end of the season. |

they're hoping you're right. Downie is most likely set to be on the Pens 3rd line. |

Streit or AMAC? Streit played well for us but his last season it looked like he was losing his game and defensively he was deplorable. I liked Streit during his time here but he's not someone I'd want as a first pairing or signed to that contract or term and that's coming from a fan of a team that has/had a deplorable defense. It'll hurt, you know it. It's not really a debate IMO but at least I can say Streit is/was a good player. As far as amac I have nothing to admit. The guy was honestly one of my least favorite players to ever put on a sweater and that says a lot being who I root for. There has been a lot not to like. Please don't bring up ice time or blocked shots that was purely because of our moron coach and amac coughing up the puck.
I've watched him play for you guys. He is less noticeable due to you guys having a better team last year but he's the same player. Pretty much horrible in all areas. I watched him in the PO's. Made the same gaffes. I mean if you guys like him great but why do Flyer fans defend an obvious sub par player and contract? |

I was referring to Isles fans laughing at the Flyers for signing Streit who went on to be top-20 in points by a defenseman last year. - jmatchett383
I liked Streit, but aside from the pp I didn't like him unless he was bottom pairing. The money he got was fine but the term was too long and if you expect him to play on your top pairing that's not a good fit. |

I agree that the money was about right, but the term was way too long.
as for them expecting him to be on the top pairing, that wasn't expected as much as it's probably just shaken out that way |

No, I'm talking about Streit. Isles fans were ragging on us about how terrible he was, but he actually acquitted himself quite well. Now, as for the 3rd/4th year of that contract, that may change. But so far, he's lived up to the contract. He's a second-pair guy who will work well with a stay-at-home guy and can run a PP.
As for AMac, I think he just fit our system/mix better than the Islanders, plain and simple. Much the same way that Vinny L would fit Laviolette's system better than Berube's. You have a bias toward him, which is fine, but it's not like he's Brooks Orpik getting that deal. |

Well, they better hope he's fully healthy/stays healthy because, aside from his first 10 or so games after he got a concussion in his first game as a Flyer, he was a complete anchor on that 3rd line. He actually was a net negative. It's a small contract, so it won't hurt them, but if they're counting on him, it's a big gamble. |

it's been a few years. plus I think even with Tocchet he broke 20 goals or 40 points a grand total one 1 time. It was early in his career, too.
Downie used to be effective, but he's lost most of his wheels, and I just don't think even when he is playing well that he makes up for his boneheadedness |
