have you talked to him personally?
- flyershockey

Are you seriously trying to argue that Pronger would WILLINGLY hand over $5 million?

I don't know what sort of dictatorship you live in but in the USA and Canada, you can retire from work without asking for permission. The fact that he has not retired leads people to believe he doesn't wish to. What aren't you understanding? Are you a Leafs fan?

Not really their call. If he wanted to retire, he'd retire.

He is owed over $5.15M over the next few years. So he could either retire and get nothing or not retire an receive that money. That has zero to do with his age and everything to do with getting paid.

- jmatchett383

hes made 112 million dollars. i dont think 5 mil is making or breaking him. yes, 5 mil is 5 mil, but its a lot different to him than it is to you or me. sayign the over 35 rule plays no factor in why pronger hasnt retired is a joke.

So it's in his best interest to retire and get nothing as opposed to not playing and making money? I'm not following the logic here.

Let me ask you: If I offered to give you $100 to sleep tonight or $0 to sleep tonight, which would you take? $100 won't make or break you. But since you're going to sleep anyway (much like he's not playing anyway) I'm assuming you'd want the $100.

haha. you're an assclown. if his choices are retire, dont get paid and hurt the flyers cap or keep going on LTIR, collect $$ and help the flyers cap, its an easy choice. that has nothing to do with whether or not he WANTS to retire. until you talk to him personally, you have no (frank)ing idea whether he wants to retire or not.

So you're saying he doesn't like money? Okay. Thanks.

Also, I always wondered about the term "assclown." It's not really all that insulting, as it makes zero sense.

you two are arguing semantics

you both know it's in everyone's self-interest for Pronger to just take the money and ride the IR

That's fine. Yes, is he no longer playing professional hockey due to an injury? Yes. Is he retired? No.

Also, to the best of my knowledge, Kimmo Timonen has not retired.

What is the facking logic behind retiring?? I doubt the guy has a college degree so it's not like he can just start a career to start earning more money. This last $5 million he's going to receive is likely the last bit of money he's going to earn to last him the rest of his lifetime and help his family and kids out.

im saying that you, as jmatchett383, have no idea whether chris pronger wants to retire or not. you are giving your opinion on why he hasn't retired, with money being the reason. you have 0 proof of that.

hes already doing scouting and other work for the flyers. safe to say thats a nice little internship type role, and there are probably 29 other teams that wouldn't mind having a guy like chris pronger around some of their young defensemen. another argument that makes no sense.

Nobody with basic common sense and half a brain would walk away from the money. EVERYBODY can clearly and transparently see the MAIN reason Pronger hasn't retired yet.

It's the EXACT same thing as Savard not retiring. Only Savard's deal isn't an over-35 deal so retiring wouldn't hurt the Bruins cap yet he hasn't retired yet...I wonder why?

Okay, but it seems very logical to assume that Chris Pronger would rather get paid $5 million than not.

internships don't pay $5 mil

If Pronger works, it's not because he needs to. It's because he wants to.

Needing it and declining it are 2 different things. If you have the choice to get money or not get money, most people would prefer to get the money.

NFL contracts are not guaranteed. Pretty sure their contracts would have been terminated by the teams if they were unable to play. NHL contracts are.

they were both in the primes of their careers when they retired. they had at least 2-3 years to make big money and both walked away. that argument makes no sense.

he didn't retire. he's collecting a check. he's LTIRed, which means he counts against the cap over the summer, but then they are alleviated of his cap hit right as the season begins. it's why they've been fitting under.
- Hesh_

No they are not alleviated of his cap hit as the season begins. A player on LTIR counts against the cap the same as any other player. A team receives an exemption to go over the cap to replace the player, if replacing the player causes them to do so.
