It's a game. Montreal gets it. Like most other teams, I guess. No way they believe he's even close to a $5.25MM player. They just set the bar so low that when the arbitrator asks them to raise it in a compromise, they'll find a middle that works out well for them.

I just can't believe Subban didn't touch $10MM in his ask. That's probably where I'd start if I was representing Subban.

The problem is they'll have to go in and give justification for why he's only a 5.2 million a year player. Which probably won't go over well, particularly after their last set of negotiations.

Nothing good ever comes from Arbitration. That's why smart teams get a deal done before the arbitration date hits.

No surprise here , if ryan doesn't stay things are gonna hit rock bottom
Very quickly

They need to sign these guys to cement the season ticket holders - perhaps the comments from Leeder are just the reality check to Melnyk - sign these guys or the season ticket base will collapse.

EK alone can't sell tickets

The Sens have a good fanbase and it's a shame that Melnyk is not putting the best product on the ice. The Ticket prices are still the same for the fan but somehow get a team with a soft-cap just because the owner isn't doing to well financially / going through a divorce? That's not right to the fans.

The Sens Army deserve better.

Once you lose the diehard Sens fans cuz the owner isn't doing anything to help the situation, then they'll be in trouble. Hope that doesn't happen since having an NHL team in your City is pretty damn cool.

Coming from a Habs fan.

The blog was about Robin Lehner's upcoming restricted free agency signing. Travis also touched on arbitration & Subban's negotiations, big deal. No ones holding a gun to your head saying you must read Yost's blogs.

This coming from a Leaf troll. At least we could read playoff blogs more than once in the last decade.

But being a Leafs fan - you get a steady stream of Leafs collapse articles which are the best kind. Like clockwork every spring, the writers just pump them out.

Kind of tough to comparable RFA to UFA deals. I mean the offer's obviously a joke but there are better comparables, I'd say.

To start, Subban's better than Weber, and Weber's arb award this summer would've been something like $8.2MM adjusted. Pretty hilarious disparity there..

- Travis Yost

Subban better than Weber? What planet is this?

Hitzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz and yet, anyone who clicked into the post had no idea that part of it was going to discuss anything Montreal. (That's by design, of course.) Not a good way to troll for hitzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Feel free to never read anything I write again. That's one less hit for me, by the way.

Great interview with Turris on CJOH. Most interesting was his comment suggesting that everyone would be playing the same way this year.

I think the big shocker for this year is going to be the stability of the Ottawa D in their own end. Everyone will likely talk about the D and goaltending being better. But, in fact, the main difference will be the consistent support of forwards coming back into the defensive zone and providing effective defensive support.

Good contract for Ottawa. But, when it is back end loaded this way it requires the team to compute the qualifying offer on the last year of salary. Smart deal for Lehner.

if after 3 years, he ends up being the quality goalie most hope/expect him to be, even that "higher" qualifying amount is still gonna be a bargain

So I guess our roster is set, where does that put us in actual money spent? 29th or 30th?

Lehner is a guy that wants to put the team on his back and has that competative spirit teams need to win. I'm a big fan. Only thing now is to see it happen - I've always been a big believer in him

Why don't you give the defence any credit or blame? Just curious.

I have always liked his competitiveness. I think he needs to learn to take that and put it into his game effectively. Once that happens, we could have a Lundqvist type goalie to rely on.
