8.5 million is more ok than 5.25
And do you really think Marc Bergevin's main concern is PK's 2014-15 cap hit? It's insignificant in the big picture.

- Gary_B.

And how is 8.5 more okay than 5.25? To me, they're the 2 extremes. These are numbers for next year salary, not a long term contract by the way.

Why does everyone assume this is how it works?

The habs could simply come up with a bunch of comparable players such as Pietrangelo or even Karlsson for example. And tell the arbitrator to look at how much those guys make.

- Pecafan Fan

There was an arbitrator on 98.5 last night who talked about it, the guy worked on cases for the NHL and the MLB for years. He said that it's not all doom and gloom like people in the media are painting it at the moment. Most cases end up with everybody eating dinner together.

Because most guys who go to arbitration haven't had PK's pedigree. It's pretty simple. Look at the list of guys who filed this year.
- Gary_B.

Shea Weber did and Nashville did the same thing and then signed a massive offer sheet the next summer that will handicap them over the course of it.

No he doesn't I bang on but why did he low ball it so much if he had no intention of backing up. These don't work like regular negotiations where you try and find middle ground, you are trying to win your case to justify the amount.
- Yeti1181

Look at what offered Eller. It was a joke and he ended up giving Eller more than Eller asked for. You're putting too much stock into what teams offer in arb. It's a hollow number.

Weber was awarded 7.5 3 years ago.

"It's time for the Canadiens to commit to Subban. He's certainly committed to them, even if some Toronto natives want you to believe he's always dreamed of playing for the Leafs. It's time for the Habs to make a statement about how much they respect Subban."

It looks like Bergevin isn't an Engels reader.

Really? Weber 3 years ago wasn't comparable to PK? Are you kidding? Of course they're comparable. weber is the better player but Weber wasn't an RFA with a Norris trophy 3 years ago.

Yeah, locking the best and only superstar skater on the team to an 8 year deal through his prime would be a horrible position.

Ppl aren't going to agree and they aren't going to want to hear this: If this gets settled by a third party+end result is 1-yr, trade Subban

Hey Tony, if your only purpose of coming here, is to post snarky, Asp/DoubleDown type replies, then just go back. It's really not so much fun.
