Why is it so complicated to understand?
All these dmen cannot be used as comparable. They either were UFA, signed in the previous CBA, or too young and did not have access to arbitration.
The only 2 they can use are Yandle and Bogosian. - fidopro
I think, after you win the Noris, all the comparables are open.. |

Sorry, but that's simply not the case in this situation. In some arbitration cases, yes it is. In this one, it isn't. - hscesq
And how would you know? Not to be rude, but come on. The only difference between this and other arbitration hearings is the profile/calibre of player, which makes it even more important that the Habs do their best to save cash, because there's so much more of it at stake. |

I agree, but with the exact opposite theory. The difference is the caliber of the player, and so that is the reason why they will NOT rip him in this hearing. They want to sign him long term and that is their ultimate goal, but they won't cut off their nose to spite their face, and risk losing that opportunity. |

I highly doubt Montreal is ripping Subban. There's nothing to gain by "winning" this process and Bergevin knows that. - DoubleDown
If MB is trying to justify the 5.25 offer he's going to have too is what I'm saying, he may not be but he's not really justifying his offer then. |

Right but the point is that he has nothing to gain by trying to justify his offer. Frankly I don't even know how he could justify that offer. All he would do is further alienate PK. I know we're all questioning his competence right now but he's not an idiot. He's not going to sit there and rip Subban. He knows 5.25 is nonsensical. |

And 8.5M is okay?!? The answer is probably in the middle, around 7M. |

IM not quite sure why you guys think MB is going to handle this so different then what seems like every GM has before. Its the nature of the business unfortunately. |

8.5 million is more ok than 5.25
And do you really think Marc Bergevin's main concern is PK's 2014-15 cap hit? It's insignificant in the big picture. |

1. Scotch, not micro brew.
2. I tweeted the Jays a couple weeks ago to stop sucking taint, and suggested they rip off a winning streak or risk flushing the season. Since then they've gone 11-2. I am a demotivational sage.

Because most guys who go to arbitration haven't had PK's pedigree. It's pretty simple. Look at the list of guys who filed this year. |

No he doesn't I bang on but why did he low ball it so much if he had no intention of backing up. These don't work like regular negotiations where you try and find middle ground, you are trying to win your case to justify the amount.
