No, because most of the players and/or management are not happy with that process. Wich is why most players ended up working a deal before reaching that point. - deadpoulet
Subban knows what his value is and he won't back down. He proved it by holding out 2 years ago missing training camp and some regular season games.
Imagine 2 years later after he was the Habs best player in the playoffs and a Norris trophy*. |

Yeah I don't think Bergevin is there trying to tear Subban's game apart in front of an arbitrator.
It makes no sense at all. They're talking business, not what happens on the ice. - Pecafan Fan
They have to talk about his play to justify their offer. This is why things can get ugly. |

Players who have been through it before repeatedly say that it's a bad experience. They often come out saying things like "You don't like hearing things like that said about yourself." - BINGO!
It can be very brutal apparently. Montreal needs to make a case as to why he's only worth 5.25 a year, in order to prove that they will have to completely rip on him. |

They really don't have to.
All they need to do is find comparables. |

Look, as much as everyone wants this to be done and an announcement to be made, the speculation is just getting ridiculous. Wasn't necessarily a shot at you but more at how much people read into things i.e. a look coming out of the room, the time it is taking etc....

They need to prove their case though can't just use comparable plus their is no solid comparables to PK really. Keith and Seabrook wont work as they were signed long a go and in another cba where you could stretch contracts |

So the lady (the arbitrator) is in reality an NHL scout in disguise and she knows how to evaluate a players worth to his team based on how he plays on the ice?
is that it? |

Weber, Pietrangelo, Karlsson, Doughty. At $8M, he's the best paid among them all.
And then Meehan will say "Phaneuf" |

Again, you have to justify why he compares to that or that player and not that one or that one. There is no way around this. At the end of the day, Habs have to tell him he is not as good as he thinks he is. |

I highly doubt Montreal is ripping Subban. There's nothing to gain by "winning" this process and Bergevin knows that. |

Why is it so complicated to understand?
All these dmen cannot be used as comparable. They either were UFA, signed in the previous CBA, or too young and did not have access to arbitration.
The only 2 they can use are Yandle and Bogosian. |

They hadn't said a word yet when he walked out. And they're not offering $1M FFS. |

Sorry, but that's simply not the case in this situation. In some arbitration cases, yes it is. In this one, it isn't. |

I know a few times Canes players would come out of arbitration and say that it's hard to actually put pen to paper on that contract when all you want to do is punch the GM in the face and go play somewhere else.
Both sides have to play every angle they can, otherwise you aren't doing your job properly. |

I would imagine someone who arbitrating for the NHL would in fact have knowledge of the game and league. You think they are using someone who knows nothing about hockey to arbitrate a hockey deal? |
