they had the player who was highly accepted as the top player of his generation which barring injuries wasn't far off. he was 18 years old and years removed from free agency.
that players was in another class.
that's like saying the pens would be in a position of weakness had crosby opted to ask for a trade after the draft. they would have gotten anything from anyone.

Oh sure! Lindros was younger and nowhere near UFA. I'm not saying PK would bring back the same return. I'm just saying it's not because everybody knows you have to deal a player that you cannot get a good return. If you have a good asset to trade away, you'll get a good return.

i never said the return wouldn't be good. i said Montreal is likely to lose that trade. it's not being pessimistic Marty. it's an educated assessment based on multiple scenarios that mirror this one and have played out in the past. |
