Subban would look great in a oilers sweater feeding hall, nuge, ebs, perron, and yak with the long stretch pass
- oilstone

You will give up a few of those in a trade for him.

Montreal should do like the Leafs did with Phaneuf.

Cave and massively overpay.

Bet he's dying to play in Edmonton. That's why a deal isn't reached yet between him and Montreal.

Or maybe MB thinks it will cost him less to go to arbitration than sign a long term deal right now. Next year at let say 7.5M through arbitration, than sign long term at 9M per.

because that kind of nickel and diming is a foolish way to manage your players.

it's actually quite the opposite.

It's only in the western world that a win-win solution is viewed as a successful negotiation outcome.

In most other places such as Asia, the middle-east, etc, leaving anything on the table is viewed as disgrace and the aim of any negotiation is to crush the other party. I other words, to disrespect him.

- basementfloor

In most places in the world, not negotiating and driving a hard bargain is viewed as being a wussy and a big sign of disrespect.

According to Oilers fans they are all untouchables. We'd have to settle for their poop.

Oh I totally agree. They wanted him to be more responsible, to be a better teammate. Time to pay up!

He loves golf.

Why would he want to stay on a team that makes the playoffs?

Bergevin is paid to put as good a hockey team on the ice as he can. that includes Subban being here long term. there is no"plan" to sign him for one year, save money, and then lock him up next year. because you're just going to pay a higher AAV next year anyway.

Exactly. That being said, if you take PK's point of view, why would he not wait a year or two before signing long term? He knows the cap is going north!
So if you're MB and want to sign him long term right now, it will cost you a lot. Like 9.5M per. As ridiculous as it may sound...
