GEt him at a fair price this year through ARB and then give into his demands.
Bergevin is a genious ! - WaterBoy
They already played that trick, and even though they were right then it wasn't pretty. This is going to be much worse.
At best the Canadians are just costing themselves more money down the line, more than likely they're going to cost themselves the services of one of the best defensemen they've had in a while.
Why would PK ever sign with the Canadians long term after getting the run around twice already? Particularly when he can wait a year and get more money somewhere else.

yeah, not the most reasonable guy in the business. Still, Bergevin managed to make PK sign that bridge contract. - stinger67
Well when Bergevin made him sign that bridge deal he did tell him he'd make a ton of money if he played well in those two years.
then he won the Norris.
so I'm not sure what's unreasonable.

No, next year. - Pecafan Fan
Well, he did have one full year to resign him, no? If they couldn't agree on a deal this year before arbritation, I don't see why it would be any different next year. |

If he signs only for one year now, Bergevin will have the whole season to sign a deal with Subban AND he'll still be eligible for arbitration next summer.
No? - Pecafan Fan
and you really think that Subban will be open to signing here long term after an arbitration hearing? |

agree. i assume that if things go awry, it's simply because PK doesn't want to sign a long term deal. |

I think a ton of money will help him forget whatever's said in a hearing.
that being said the habs would have even less leverage next year.
I think they'll manage to get a deal done before that though and I hope it will be a very long oe so we don't have to discuss this again until 8 years from now when stee gets his high school equivalency |

I think they'll do the smart thing and sign him before the hearing to a long term deal.
It's only gloom and doom if they don't. |

I don't care how much money he'll make, I want him signed for 8 years. That, being signed long term, would be a good deal. |
