yeah this is pretty much what everyone agreed with coming out of the lockout.
superstars would make tons of money, younger guys wouldn't and the ones in the middle would battle for the scraps - basementfloor
There's plenty of money available. It makes it so the market remains competitive and top teams don't get all the talent by getting creative.
No one said a young guy has to take less. He can go play in Winnipeg. Plenty of cap there. Or Sunny Florida.
Minnesota could never have signed both Suter and Parise without paying them till their 40's.
However, those guys would still have had a high salary. They were top UFA commodities with lots of cash to be spent. Now if they would have taken less money to play in their home towns, great, but that's what was intended of them.
If Subban doesn't want to take less money to play here, he doesn't have to. He will get it somewhere else and beyond what he's asking.
Point is, the cap means poop.

Then he can take a 1 year deal and hope he has a good season. Maybe the canadian $ will fall and the cap will drop.

Speaking of the CAD. Right now it's 1.085cad/1usd.
Players get paid in USD.
So for Subban to make 9mil this year, he would make 9.765mil in Canadian dollar.
It's quite an advantage to play in Canada right now. |

Good god. The canned ham is not disgusting enough, so let's put some butter on it. |
