If they take him to arbitration they might as well trade him. After giving in to the bridge deal, and then going to arbitration (which is always brutal) he's going to just bide his time and GTFO the second he hits UFA.

fair enough but if the 2 sides can't put together a long term agreement now, what makes you think they'll be able to do it next summer? - DoubleDown
GEt him at a fair price this year through ARB and then give into his demands.
Bergevin is a genious ! |

100% agreed. The habs have no leverage in this situation. PK and his camp can just tell bergevin, give us the number we want, or we go UFA in 2 years and get even more money. |

I was thinking the same thing. Just for fun, won't happen, but just for fun. Where would you trade him and for what? SJ? EDM? |

well i don't anyone freaking out, just discussing potential outcomes. no matter what anyone thinks, we can all agree that this has not exactly been a smooth process over the last two years with PK. |

If he signs only for one year now, Bergevin will have the whole season to sign a deal with Subban AND he'll still be eligible for arbitration next summer.

Do you think they can trade him, genius? - elcabong
Sure, but you will not receive anything worth his value. Trading away star players never bodes well for the team giving them away.

yeah, not the most reasonable guy in the business. Still, Bergevin managed to make PK sign that bridge contract. |
