Subban is holding at 9.5. Notice how neither side is shooting arrows just yet? It will come down to the wire. Bergevin trying to hold out to meet at 9, Meehan holding out hoping to meet at 9.25... Just a matter of who blinks first (if the scenario I'm describing is actually what is going on) - kev1586
9 million is too much. |

he said the Habs have offered 8.75 over 8. If I am PK I jump at that. - AGalchenyuk27
Agreed, but we are talking Don Meehan here... |

It would make him the highest paid dman in the league wouldn't it ? - golfingsince
It would, but if doughty and Keith were up for contract today, they would get over 10 a year. Timing is everything |

Disagree, Toews and Kane both make over 10 being the only two players in the same realm as Subban to sign this summer. They are worth more and so make more but Subban's # will be close to 9. |

Doughty will get paid for sure, but Keith is a little older.
Only 2 players in the league have and AAV over 9 million. |

They join Ovechkin and Malkin next season. Getzlaf's deal begins this year at 8.25 much closer to what Subban should make. |

Isn't that more of a product of working with old numbers? New CBA, new TV deal, cap is rising and so will AAV's. Won't take long for many others to catch up. |

See Perry and Getzlaf. Perry won a Hart trophy FFS. |

I'm not saying I disagree with your arguments here about Kane, Toews, Getzlaf, Perry but if Habs could have signed him for 8 or lower, it would have happened already, so my guess is that sometimes in the next 24 hours, you will be disappointed and Subban will be very rich. |

Teams pay for potential now. Jake Gardner in Toronto. Cory Schneider, Matt niskinen. Look at those contracts. They haven't exactly dominated the league yet either. |

The team is more important than 1 player. If so get rid of him. |
