2 years will never happen. Arbitration is 1 and if that happens, I wouldn't be surprised if a trade happened near the draft next summer. Might not, but that would be my guess. |

Subban’s camp is believed to be looking at between $7.5 million and $8 million, per year, on a long-term contract.
Both parties appear set on a long-term commitment — seven or eight years, a source confirmed — but the barrier currently revolves around Subban’s annual salary.” |

Arbitration number says that Subban wants 8.5 as RFA which means he wants more as UfA (anything over 2 years) |

The arb number was just that - an arb number. I am sure they realize that for long term, they need to be near $8M. |

from the 4th period:
” The Canadiens filed a one-year, $5.25 million offer through arbitration, while Subban’s camp is asking for $8.5 million.
While though numbers have been strategically presented in the event the two sides cannot agree to a deal and arbitration is the last resort, it’s believed the Canadiens are hoping to sign Subban to a long-term deal worth between $6.5 million to $7 million, per season. |

But that's on a 1 year deal. When you start buying those UFA years the number goes up. |

Subban is holding at 9.5. Notice how neither side is shooting arrows just yet? It will come down to the wire. Bergevin trying to hold out to meet at 9, Meehan holding out hoping to meet at 9.25... Just a matter of who blinks first (if the scenario I'm describing is actually what is going on) |

Anything less than 8 million a year is a steal. Look at the contracts being handed out this year. Orpik, niskinen, Andy Greene yesterday at over 5 mill a year. Plus the fact he has been underpaid for the last 4 years |
