Nobody knows what was offered by the Habs and what are PK's demands. People need to chill out and stop making assumptions that Bergevin is trying to alienate Subban.
- stinger67

that's all I was trying to say. Everything is speculation.

So you think the habs should make Subban the highest paid dman in the NHL?

I don't want the habs to lose him don't get me wrong. He is my favourite player on the team. But his camp seems to me to be greedy

- Biggus Richardus

It's just the way it works out. The salaries being handed out now are much higher, Subban happens to be the first elite d-man to be up for a contract during those circumstances. He won't be the highest paid d-man for long. As soon as another one is up for an extension they'll almost certainly surpass him.

As much as I'm playing devil's advocate I hope the habs just lock him up long-term.

He doesn't bring a 8mil game yet, but he will.

The pain of "overpaying", is far less than losing him in my opinion.

No matter what the specifics are, Bergevin has made an absolute mess of this situation.

If that thing really gets settled in arbitration, you can't fault the Habs for trying to pay as less as possible for a one-year deal. Bergevin is looking at keeping as much free cap space as possible to be sure he can make moves if needed at the deadline or even earlier.

With my usual amount of back reading done, which is none, Subban deserves to be the highest paid Dman right now. Not because he's the best. But because it's simple inflation. Is be better than Weber? Offensively? Sure is. But not the total package, but Weber's deal is from 2-3 years ago. There is nothing wrong with PK getting 8+ a year.

PK's agent is Don Meehan, it's also possible that he's the one inflating his client's head as well and making the mess they are in now.

If they only sign him for one year and can't extend him during the season. You have to think trade rumours start circulating.

I hope there is a master plan here

I sincerely hope he's doesn't think this is the time to be trying to add for runs at the deadline. This isn't the cup window for the team.

If they can't extend him they all but have to trade him. They can afford to have him sitting on the edge of UFA and lose significant value

I have a feeling the asking is 9+

otherwise Bergevin is a jackass for not getting this done at the 8 to 8.5 area

You think so? That does make sense. I can't see a squabble over 500k when it comes to a player like PK.

I'd understand if that was the case. Rumors of the Habs offerings has them not offering anything over 8.

I guess all we can do is wait

9 mil to league max is what I mean.

But I really have no way of actually knowing. Pure speculation.

Though I do believe there is something here that doesn't sit right. I have a feeling management doesn't like Subban as a person. There has to be something more to this story than meets the eye.

Habs want to lock him up long term. Subban most likely wants a 2-3 year deal that expires when he is a UFA so he can get maxxx dollars and more teams bidding will push his price up.

Eesh, I sure hope it's not coming down to this poop. Well, maybe I do. I don't want that (frank)er on the Habs.

You mean have that contract up in the Summer of '16. AKA, The Summer of The Leafs?

Anybody remember 3-4 years ago when Ek declared that it was gonna be the "The Summer of the Leafs"? So awesome.

Was probably the year they got Komisarek and Beauchemin.
