the Habs have no clue what the cap will be next year, they have Gallagher, Galchenyuk, Bournival, Beaulieu, Tinordi and Subban to sign
if cap does not go up they only have 18M
if they give PK 8.5M can you sign the remaining for 9.5M?
If the cap goes up its easier to give PK more - hamiltonhabfan
On top of the normal yearly raise the cap takes the TV money starts next season, the cap will go up. |

Why does everybody write in such absolutes?
And nobody knows about the contract talks and is once again shamelessly villainizing the habs management which imo has done a great job up until now.
Yet we jump to the conclusion that it is all Molson and Bergevin.
And my favourite: "how can this club survive without subban?"
Wtf guys seriously there are so many potential trade scenarios that can work out in the habs favour. Subban has far from proven that he is worth 8+ a year long term. These salaries that players are being handed out are disgusting and the league can't lock out the players after every labour talk.
GMs can't be saved from themselves and it is a matter of time before the Sedin contracts, Hossa contracts, Phaneuf and Clarkson contracts seriously confine teams from doing anything.
Subban at 8+ is a risk. I can easily count over ten players I'd rather have for that money than Subban.
On the other side of the coin, it may be management's fault. But at what point is Subban's ego not a part of it either?
Takes two to tango.
One of them thinks very highly of themself

I think it's fair to assume everyone feels pretty poop about the whole thing.
I get tired of this air of contempt from Habs management, like everything is beneath them because they're "THE" Montreal Canadiens, like an elderly person who thinks their generation is superior to the current one. It seems to be infectious once anyone is in the drivers seat for the team. The Habs have a great history, but that history is the city and the fans, they've grown along with the game, and they love Subban. I don't see how they can hardline this, it's just not in the cards. Let it go and evolve, otherwise the history of greatness this team has will be the only greatness it has. - ehabs9
Team Canada thought really high of Subban |
