He didn't look competent in the least last year.
- dadeadhead

All the times no, but he also looked competent at other times. If you don't agree that's your opinion but that's not a fact neither is me saying he did.

Some say he showed he is competent, others agree with you.

Manuel's accuracy was sub-par at best, even when healthy, and basically the same exact issues that kept him from getting over the hump at Florida State were magnified at the NFL level. One needs only to watch his 2012 game at NC State to see what I mean. The problem with Manuel is that there was very little gap between him and Thad Lewis, which is unacceptable for a first round draft pick.
- buffalofan19

Manuel has a much better arm than Lewis.

The biggest knock on him that I can see is he doesn't go through his progressions if the first read isn't open. Which was a philosophy at FSU first read covered use your legs. I think its coachable.

If/when Pegula buys the Bills it will be a new concept to have one man owning both the Bills and the Sabres. It might take a little bit getting used to but perhaps he'll be able to get some FA's to come here like he has been able to get them to come to the Sabres. It will be a whole new NFL world in Buffalo

Your opinion. I will be driving into Buckhead in Atlanta to watch them at the Bills backers bar.

Have fun.

If I watch a total of 1 hr of football during the year, that will be a lot.

imo, there's too much of an emphasis on all of that...i'm looking beyond that at what they've done stacking the defense which includes trading down and getting kiko Alonso...

if I hear "franchise quarterback" thrown around again, i'm gonna puke...

last year, 3rd round pick Russell Wilson beat the god that is peyton manning...

or was it the seahawks beating the broncos?

College football along with college basketball is more entertaining than their respected pro leagues.

Been that way for quite a while too.

Like it should have been in 1973 when Rich Stadium, and soon around then UB North should have been built downtown. Imagine downtown if those two things and the Skyway never blocked the waterfront? What urban planner had input in all that

I have no idea about the urban planning thing. but UB in Amherst is a joke. The OP site for the stadium was more about land than anything IIRC.

I for one (AM probably alone) would like to see the city built around the skyway. it would add a unique feature that few cities have.

he's was really good third round pick who came into a situation that was made for a quarterback like him...

would he be a franchise qb on the bills right now?

don't think so

I saw Russell Wislon play Northern Illinois at Soldior Field up close on the 20 yd line as a MAC Field Replay Official his senior year and knew nothing about him before but damn, did he have a strong arm. For a relatively small QB the ball just jumped out of his hand.

One qb averages 234 yards of total offense per game

The other averages 216 yards of total offense per game

One plays on a super bowl winning team one plays for the Bills

Yes that's only one stat line. Wilson is better at protecting the ball and is a little more accurate but Wilson playing on the Bills and we are having this same discussion I think.

he's an awesome qb...wonder why that "smallness" was held against him for 2 1/2 rounds?

Because scouts and teams are too focused on prototypes and not actual ability.

Agreed. Wilson manages the games.

Defense still wins championships. That's why Roethlisberger has more rings than Brees, Rodgers and Manning

it's ONE assistant coach spot, let the staff fill out before hating TOO much.
- stashu

Always the voice of reason.

I agree. There's a few more additions coming to the staff. Let's see who they add.

I think this group of players are ready for anything, after what happened last season.

Give the staff a little bit before we jump down their throats. I mean, who was Dan Bylsma before coaching the Pens? He had a couple years of minor league coaching and then, bam, he's a Stanley Cup champ. Granted, we don't have a Crosby or Malkin, but they still need to be coached.

i'm not a huge manuel fan and was surprised they drafted him... but they hedged their bet by dropping down and getting a 2nd rounder (Alonso)

why I was surprised at the manuel pick...

buddy nix from bills draft luncheon, 2013:

--On the qb draft class

The jury's still out on this group (of quarterbacks,) but they do enough good things--if you do what they do best--you can win with them.

--On the perceived meteoric rise of EJ Manuel

I really don't pay attention to that stuff so I didn't know he was making a move.

He can run the football. This league it's kind of a fad deal. I'm not saying [his running the football] is a fad, I'm saying the league does that, but it always comes back to being able to throw the football in this league to win and to score.

If you got a guy who can run it, first he has to be able to make NFL throws.

I haven't seen him make NFL throws.

Winning a Super Bowl will do that, as well as being a good player at the most rare position in the sport.
