Maybe I'm off base, but aren't assistants supposed to be the guys running practices and game plans for special teams? IMO this "Nolan doesn't do anything" is being exaggerated

Especially when we all know that Nolan is not an X's and O's guy. How are you supposed to run development camp and have guys working on a system that doesn't currently exist?

I would think that you need these guys in place so that they can work with Cassidy on what they want so that he knows what the plan is going to be for Rochester next year.

The Traverse City tournament isn't that far off really, and we have no assistants yet. It's an issue.

I don't even look at it from the development camp perspective. Being less than two months away from the start of your busiest time of the year, and not having a staff in place is just bad practice...in any profession.

if they were that hard up for an assistant, they could've just kept joe sacco...the team isn't going to be gathering for two months...I don't see the big deal...

that's what chad Cassidy was for...he ran the development camp which is geared towards the sabres organization and what they expect of the youngins moving up the ranks...i'm not sure where all this X's and O's stuff came from, but Nolan is a head coach of a hockey team and whether it's Latvia, long island or buffalo, it's the same basic premise
- Michael Pachla

Nolan is a head coach that essentially is just a figure head. I don't hate having him as the coach, but I'm legitimately worried that they still don't have assistants in place, as they are the ones that will be doing the heavy lifting.

Neither do I. This is a non-issue IMO.

There aren't any coaches who are Nolan's 'type'. He is going solo this year until he can create his own from the lackawanna superfund sites.

It probably is, but Nolan's reputation as being more "hands off" than just about any coach out there is nothing new.

Who's been given credit by multiple players/coaches for saving their careers or even life in general.

I'm not a Nolan lover by any means, but the guy does know what he's doing

you think so, goosie?...I just think that they're taking their time...nothing more nothing less
- Michael Pachla

I'm with you on this one. They have absolutely no reason to rush these hires. As long as they're there before training camp. Development camp is for developing players, which one Chadd Cassidy is in charge of. Nothing to see here folks..

Neither have I. I just know that Stafford has glowing things to say about him, but if I probably should have been unemployed by now, I would most likely be the same way.

Good, he'll fit right in.

I didn't say it was a bad thing. He was one hell of a goalie when he was on his game.

He knows how to motivate people. And he knows what guys are good at. But when it comes to schemes, running practice, going over game film and all that, he's hands off.

I'm not saying he's a bad coach. Don't misunderstand what I'm saying. My issue is that he hasn't done anything from what we can tell to fill in the holes.

So Chadd Cassidy is in charge of developing Girgensons who won't play even 1 game with Cassidy behind the bench this year?

I get what you're saying, but it's not entirely accurate either.

Can we start a Nolan Stereotypes counter?

1 point for "X's and O's"
1 point for "Nolan style player"
1 point for "Nolan hockey"

Imma wait two years before I believe Stafford has turned his game around...

He's an outlier. With Pysyk. It happens. Also, it can be argued that those guys are still developing even though Girgensons is the only full season NHL vet. He chose to go even though he didn't have to. That camp was run for the prospects and he chose to join it.

There's absolutely no reason to have the NHL assistant coaches running the camp for one guy. That's ridiculous.

Stafford will always be employed. His relevance may be a rollercoaster type career, but he'll always have a spot.

Agreed. I don't buy it for a second. I also don't buy that Ted Nolan and his non-existent track record of molding players into scorers is going to magically morph Stafford into a wonderful return at the trade deadline either.
