Is it the lack of a 4th line or Carlyle's system? - bloatedmosquito
Both. But I think he had no confidence. The bottom 2 lines now look really solid. |

Well depends if you call Orr MacLaren and McClement a 4th line at all? |

Depth was a huge problem last year. I remember when we had kadri, mcclement, smith, smithson down the middle at points of the season. Who can forget the Ashton-mcclement-Kulemin
Mclaren-Smithson-Orr bottom 6 we had for the majority of the year. |

Exactly. I think it's foolish to say that TSN hates the leafs. A lot of people dislike the leafs but TSN and their editors are not part of that extremely large group of haters.
Please remind your fellow leaf fans of this. - bloatedmosquito
You have to understand, talking about the Leafs the most does not mean TSN loves them. Leafs=Ratings=Money. |

Yes but everyone says they are leaf lovers blah blah blah. If that was true they wouldn't say the bad. - Yeti1181
They aren't leaf haters or lovers. They are just leaf-centric for the very reasons you gave above. |

Combination not having a fourth line will drain the other lines especially the top line which is generally the line that's gets more time out of it. |

Option 2. We lost our powerhouse 4 line and replaced it with scrubs. - Yeti1181
While I agree that the Leafs' signings are quite the dog's breakfast, I think even Bloatsie can agree that last year's 4th line was so effing atrocious, the Leafs have improved in that department.
The D is still sub-par, I'm afraid. |

I like our defense within Gards, Rielly, Phaneuf and Robidas but i never understood the point of trading gunner for polak - DougGilmour_93

The defense wasn't good last season but so much of it was due to the leafs forwards not playing defense.

A 4th line that can actually play 8-10 mins of reliable hockey will do wonders for 1st line by March/April.

Yeah not the greatest d but if you have forward that can't get a puck out or keep it in the other end of course our d will look bad. You play 80% of the game in our end no defence will look good. |

Ok but that line cost the leafs less than $3 mil. What was leaf management thinking? |

Other than a top pairing d, the rest will probably come through our system. Which obviously will take time. |
